• lag problem on vista

I'm sorry to be the noob on the block, but I am having trouble playing games on steam. Recently, I built a computer and put windows vista 64 bit on it. I installed steam and all of my games and started playing. I noticed that around every 5-10 minutes or so, I would experience a period of lag where I could not move or chat (over voice or on text), nor could I see action going on around me, but I could hear people talking over voice chat, and I could see my health bar go down. (This problem did not occur on my old machine, which ran XP) I remember reading somewhere that it's vista checking for some network thingy, but I don't remember where I read that. Could anyone help me with my problem? I'm willing to provide more information.
Are you using a wireless connection? There was a known problem regarding vista checking for new wireless connections every 10 minutes, but I believe the issue was fixed in a patch.

I'm almost certain that this is the problem I am having. How do I disable this "feature?"
You can't disable it, it's integral to using a wireless connection (as far as I know). Make sure you get SP1 and all windows updates.
Does windows 7 do the same thing? Because if this problem persists, I'm upgrading.
Not as far as I'm aware, but you should still get the updates.
