So if HL2 is being release on Mac, does that mean us PC users will get the engine updated to the latest version because that's the only one that works on Mac?
I think that would be pretty cool.
Yeah, that was my second thought when I saw the Free Yourself trailer.
What Engine updates are we talking about? Because everybode has to run on the same engine atleast players with one kind of build can only join servers of same build and vice versa.
If it does, THEY BETTER ADD ACHIEVEMENTS.
High dynamic range rendering (2005, Day of Defeat: Source)
Simulation of a camera aperture and the ability to fake the effects of brightness values beyond computer monitors' actual range. Required all of the game's shaders to be rewritten.[13]
Soft particles (2007, Orange Box)
An artist-driven, multiprocessor-optimised particle system. Unlike most such systems, particles are not 'clipped' by 3D geometry.[14]
Hardware facial animation (2007, Orange Box)
Hardware accelerated on modern video cards for "feature film and broadcast television" quality.[6]
Multiprocessor support (2007, Orange Box)
A large code refactoring allowed the Source engine to take advantage of multiple CPU cores on the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.[15] On the PC support was experimental and unstable[16] until the release of Left 4 Dead.[17] Multiprocessor support was later backported to Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat Source.[18]
Xbox 360 support (2007, Orange Box)
Valve created the Xbox 360 release of The Orange Box in-house, and support for the console, unlike support for the PlayStation 3, is fully integrated into the main engine codeline. It includes asset converters, cross-platform play and Xbox Live integration.[19] Program code can be ported from PC to Xbox 360 simply by recompiling it.[20]
Mac OS X support (2010)
Starting in April 2010, Valve has announced the availability of OpenGL rendered Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Portal, and the Half-Life series on Mac OS X. All future Valve games will be released simultaneously for PC and Mac.[21][22]
Multicore support and HDR are the best bits, and achievements would be cool.

Actually they do add achievements :) Atleast they add it to Counter-Strike: Source
Taken from the Couter-Strike: Source Beta on the steam shop
Features new to the beta
144 achievements added
New lifetime player stats and summary screens
New match player stats and summary screens
New end of round display with MVP and interesting fact about a player
Updated scoreboard with new icons, visual style, MVP stars, and avatar pictures
New cinematic death camera
New domination and revenge system
Added avatar icons to voice chat, scoreboard, and end of round display
Incorporated many source engine updates
They better do it. I mean console versions had it for a long time :(
They also state when the beta is over they update it and owners will get it all for free. Sweet awsomeness.
My library pages for HL2 and Ep1 are showing a number of achievements. No descriptions yet though.
