• Can't install Half Life

I've just bought Half-Life (1998) from a store and then I got home, insert it into my computer, ran setup.exe which is a menu and then I clicked "Install Half Life". Nothing happens. The window disappears. No new windows open. Help?
maybe try using the key on steam !!!
Where is the key?
Well. I looked on the side and found a number of digits. Entered it in then.. Not allowed. Dupe key.

if it isn't sealed and its a valve game don't bother buying it
If you contact Steam support with proof of you having the game, perhaps they can tie the serial key to your Steam account. It's doubtful, but you never know.
Or you can just download Black Mesa for free and pretend that's what you bought. :v:
Already tried running the setup in compatibility mode, etc.?
I already got this issue fixed. I just inserted CD, ran compatibility mode and pulled up the game.
1998 retail Half-Life works surprisingly well on new computers.
1998 retail Half-Life works surprisingly well on new computers.
Valve keeps their old shit working on modern hardware, which is pretty wonderful when you think about how difficult it can be to get older games to run these days.
I remember installing the 98 version on my computer and when I tried to run it it gave me a big error saying "WARNING - This sofware may not work well with your OS.." or something like that and I got scared, but then it worked flawlessly anyway. I just find it funny that a game that has worked perfectly for me on every system as soon as I install it gives me a warning that it might not work, and there are tons of games that don't work that won't even load or spit out any type of error.
