We at Sharptooth Studios are developing a Skateboarding game for the iPhone, iPad, and Android called SkateKing It is on kickstarter right now, http://http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/821112238/skate-king-a-fingerboarding-game-for-the-iphone-an The player will control a finger board (one of those old school finger skateboards that all the cool kids played with at school). Players will be able to choose their skateboard deck and whichever pre-made skate park they want to ride in. It will be a top down view so the player can focus on busting out all the tricks they can (you will be looking at the skate board deck and a few feet around the board and all times). We have created several ramps and rails for the player to ride, as well as a half pipe, quarter pipe and swimming pools to ride in. We are currently working on a playable prototype for the skateboard controls and should be done by the end of this week. We are including a level editor that will allow the user to make custom built skate parks. We also have licensing agreements with 6 real world skate companies and are negotiating with several other for licensing as well. All the images are from the unity game engine And comments or questions about the game would be great Thank you
Doesn't look like it really needs $15.000 to be developed, but it looks pretty neat.
It seems like all of these indie developers that make a kickstarter make the goal ridiculously high hoping to make tons of profit... [editline]17th September 2012[/editline] Also if I pledge $1,000 to your game I only get a "chance" to be in closed beta and a T shirt?
My costs are for the programmer we have hired. Good programmers arent cheap. The game will take about 4 month to complete, and that will take around 9-10 thousand dollars just for the programmers salary. Then we have other expenses as well, we are in negotiations with a few skate companies that are quite far from our office and we will have to travel to meet with then and talk about licensing.. "
Also if I pledge $1,000 to your game I only get a "chance" to be in closed beta and a T shirt
" you get to get a pre-release version of the game to make a skate park and have it be in the final released version of the game as well as be in the beta test
Don't know why people are jumping on you for the $15,000 funding. That seems about reasonable for the costs of developing an app that doesn't suck balls/actually uses real skate companies licenses. edit: Oh wait, none of the pledges until $25 actually get you the game. Yeah that needs to change. People have trouble handing out $5 for stellar apps on iOS/Android, let alone $25. And one of, if not the only reason, kickstarter gaming projects are so successful is because it acts as a pre-order.
hehe thank fkpuz, we dont know why either we are doing everything we can to get our name out there, plus we are really close to having a prototype for the game that will show off the way we are planning on having the touch controls should be very intuitive and very much like a real skateboard. I.E. swipe for spinning the board like a frisbee and tap the side of the board for a spin like a football spiral.( and yes I know there are really names for those tricks but it is easy to explain it that way to a layperson ? :)
oh wait, none of the pledges until $25 actually get you the game. we are also starting a campaign on indiegogo to get some quick money to help us finish up our great looking prototype. we only need $1185 more and then we can finish it up and have a working game to show. The link is http://igg.me/p/233259?a=1307073 check it out please
frankly, no.
No...Just no also seriously 15.000$ for an SKATE game? thats WAY too high even if you are going to have a lot of content you dont need such a big budget
No...Just no also seriously 15.000$ for an SKATE game? thats WAY too high even if you are going to have a lot of content you dont need such a big budget
Read the thread, 5$ gets you the game now. Looks like a fun game too.
I know that but i feel the budget is way too high
I know that but i feel the budget is way too high
Oh my bad. Damn differences between . and , 15,000 doesn't really seem THAT bad.
do all of you realize what a job is? Yes, designing videogames takes real work and is a valid job. Shocking!!! 15,000 split between the devs probably won't amount to much AND you get the game so it's not like you're just throwing money at them. They're buying licenses too so
If this is better than Touchgrind, I'll think about it.
I think the money would be needed to get some brands in there too
Thank you and if you actually think about it, how much would a programmer make a month if he was charging 30 bucks an hour for 20 hours a week for 4 months? if you actually do the math it is a very reasonable amount to ask for. I mean all the money I am asking for is going to the programmer and for business expenses like licensing and travel expenses. I have agreements with 6 companies to use there brands in my game and several other huge companies wanna see a prototype before they sign on and that all cost money Touch grind is a great game, it is just really small. But what they did, they did very well. My game is the next logical step for these types of games. A lot more levels, ramps, rails and an awesome skatepark editor which will really set my game apart from touchgrind, and I have real world brands in there as well. Plus I am selling the game for a lot less the touchgrind And wolfman...as much as I would like people to work for free, I am forced to pay for quality programmers to make the game awesome...and that takes money but thank you all for looking at the game Any other comments or questions are always appreciated
I was saying no to the fact that he wants 2 grand on a separate crowdfunding site to make a prototype for the game on the other crowdfunding site
lord crypto: the indiegogo site is money I need to finish the prototype I am currently building, the kickstarter is for the whole project funding. Games take a lot of money to make and Since I have been working on this game for about 3 months already and am running out of personal funds I need some help.
You guys think 15K is bad? Centration ask for 80K on Indiegogo and they have nothing to show yet or a proper development team.
Lol thanks canary, most people dont realize how expensive game development is because they havent ever owned a company and had to pay people. however there is a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum so far. It is just really hard getting your name out there and having people spend there money on your game....I mean there is a lot of really dumb ideas on indiegogo and kickstarter yet they keep getting funding, It is kind of disheartening
Just canceled my kickstarter site for now. Going to just focus on developing more content and get my prototype looking bad ass before I try and relaunch.... So we will see what happens. plus there are way to many big games trying to get funding right now Just going with indiegogo http://igg.me/p/233259?a=1307073
I really think you should go for this. We really need a proper skateboarding game for the android. How long would you expect it to take to make the game?
I have talked with the programmer extensively about this since I first decided to make skate king. We both think that 4 months is a very good timeline for development of this game. Even with the skatepark editor and development of a weekly X games like contest every week, we feel that we can make this goal happen with out a problem.
