According to Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC (FADE) estimated sales were strong on Steam in 2010, with Valve's digital distribution platform taking in close to $1 billion.
February 3rd, 2011 - As per the Research & Analysis division of analyst firm Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC (FADE), Valve's PC distribution platform garnered strong sales, estimated just shy $1 billion USD through the end of the year. Estimated revenues through the major digital PC retailer were estimated at $970 million USD in 2010, with December capping off the year with an estimated $213 million USD. Valve took a back seat during the year, as it was the 3rd largest publisher on Steam, bringing in an estimated $80 million USD in revenues, mostly from its 2009 release 'Left 4 Dead 2'. However, Valve sold the most titles of all publishers, as Valve published 7 of the top 10 titles when ordered for units sold. Director of Research & Analysis, Benjamin Schlichter, stated, "Steam's growth has been remarkable during the year. Over 180 titles were estimated reaching over $1 million USD in revenue for the year, painting a very healthy market for developers and publishers, with more room for growth in the future." Call of Duty Dominates 2010 Mirroring its console successes, the 'Call of Duty' franchise saw great sales on the platform, with 'Call of Duty: Black Ops' and 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' taking 1st and 2nd place in terms of gross revenues, respectively. During just 2 months on the market, Black Ops sold an estimated 1.6 million copies for just under $100 million USD. Due to the popularity of the titles and expansion packs, Activision was the #1 publisher on Steam in 2010, selling an estimated $153 million USD of content during the year. Other first person shooters saw great success as well, as 7 of the top 10 games were primarily of the format. Top Selling Titles, by Estimated Gross Revenues in 2010 1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision) - $98.2 Million USD 2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision) - $39.4 Million USD 3. Left 4 Dead 2 (Valve) - $36.0 Million USD 4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Electronic Arts) - $25.4 Million USD 5. Sid Meier's Civilization V (2K Games) - $21.9 Million USD 6. Portal (Valve) - $20.0 Million USD 7. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising (THQ) - $10.8 Million USD
And they said the pc gaming is dead...
I still lol @ people who try and support Valve by buying keys + hats [editline]5th February 2011[/editline] Valve isn't a small indie company guys
For every game sale on steam Valve make a little profit, so yeah, Gabe can swim in money.
Brb making fake information to make me the soon of Gabe Newell
Only real surprise there is Mafia II. Looks like we'll be getting a Mafia III quicker than I thought.
Hopefully they don't rush it and make a crappy ending with a HUGE cliffhanger.

Steam has got to be one of the best things that has happened to the PC, doesn't it? At least to PC gaming :v:
So, can Valve give everyone, a free game on Steam, then? Seems like a nice way to advertise themselves to those few who don't have Steam Account, yet/haven't used one in a while.
I am only surprised by mafia 2 and metro 2033. Cool List though. I am a little confused though, was the list only the top 10 fps titles or was it all game titles that were sold?
If they do Ep3 right, it will sell like a whore in Russia.
If they do Ep3, it will sell like a whore everywhere.
Fixed.

Activision selling Black Ops and MW2 only on Steam is the best thing they ever did for PC gaming because Valve now have more money to make not shit games
Heh. To think they made their first game about a decade ago, and they're still releasing games using the same engine (correct me if I'm wrong) since 2004 (which is pretty awesome in its own right). Gabe, we salute you.
