Since Vengeance came out, FilePlanet started giving it away in order to promote it's release. After a few years though, Sierra(or whatever it is nowadays) terminated their Master Server, thus ending any possibility of multiplayer (T2's main feature). Eventually TribesNext came to the fore by starting their own Master Server and re-distributing the Tribes 2 client for free.

My old dial-up Internet never worked well enough to register for multiplayer.

When Tribes 2 had it's online capabilities taken away, Tribes: Aerial Assault went along with it, almost as if they were both the same game. (Same Master List? Server?)
I wonder if TAA's Master List is back as well...
If anyone finds out, please let me know!

Shoot the other team. steal their flag.
This series is basically my childhood multiplayer game.
No other game will ever capture the essence that this series had.
One of the few games where teamwork was pretty much essential to success.
I grew up with this and Planetside. Fucking awesome games in their time. Well, Tribes is still great actually. Planetside... not so much.

I swear planetside was just tribes the mmo.
I thought planetside was fun but not worth paying monthly for. The demo was a nice taster mind you.
I loved Planetside to death, played the closed beta on Fileplanet years ago and then subscribed to the game when it came out for about 2 years.
Wasted many a hot summer day playing it.
I still have both Tribes CD's, Tribes one and Tribes 2. I got Tribes next awihle ago and played it for a bit, but I didn't like it very much - just too low tech for me now.
Why does everyone like Tribes 2, seemed like a pretty shitty generic game to me.
I've always wanted to play Tribes 2. I only played the first one, which was awesome itself, but now I finally get to fulfill my dreams of actually playing Tribes 2!!! :awesomelon:

Well, one thing, its a rare FPS nowadays.
And second is cause if you liked halo you wouldnt have it if this didnt come out.

Because it has/had unique gameplay, team play is necessary to win (unless the other team full of morons), had semi-competent AI bots, and was very moddable without needing to download extra crap.

I think a couple of the people that developed Tribes 2 were working on Planetside. Also, the Vanguard tank sounds just like the Shrike. :tinfoil:
I don't understand how every can hate on SomethingAwful and call them the ultimate internet trolls when they give us something as awesome as this.
