Back to the Future: The Game received generally favourable critical reaction. The first episode, "It's About Time", was praised by several reviewers as an effective start to the series. IGN's Greg Miller gave the episode a score of 8.5/10, writing, "it's a movie-inspired game that doesn't suck. Instead, it pushes the characters in interesting directions and whips up a good story." Miller praised Telltale Games for recreating the Back to the Future universe with attention to detail and for the iteration's witty dialogue.[36] Nathan Meunier of GameSpot gave the episode a 7.5/10 score, saying the series "shows a lot of promise with its debut installment". The review added that "The entertaining story that follows is enhanced by believable character interactions, imbuing the adventure with a great sense of authenticity". Meunier did note that the installment was "surprisingly light on challenge and content".[37] Ben PerLee from GameZone summarized his high praise of the game by saying it is a "feel good cinematic experience that any fan of Back to the Future will want to check out, and everyone else would do well to check it out".[38] PALGN gave the installment a 7/10, saying that fans of the films will "will find plenty to love with all of the callbacks and nostalgic moments", but calling the game's pace slow and the 1930s setting uninspiring. The review concluded, "Fans will delight in the more nostalgic and clever moments of 'It's About Time', but it's a short, easy and somewhat bland introduction to the series, which we hope still has time to get a lot better."[39] In a two-out-of-five stars review, The Escapist said the game "doesn't quite get the tone [of the films] right and fails to offer up much compelling gameplay". The reviewer called the setting, situations, and characters "bland", further describing the characters as "cardboard nobodies".[40] The consensus among critics was that the voice acting was exceptional, with particular praise directed to A. J. LoCascio's impersonation of Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly. Most reviewers were critical of the episode's puzzles as being too simplistic and easy.[36][37][39][40] Review aggregator Metacritic assigned the episode an average review score of 77/100.[35]
The first episode was reviewed well, the only slip up being it's replay value, but this genre of videogames have very limited replayability by nature. The game managed to caputre many trademarks of the series, along with snappy dialogue and a good story, with some original voice actors, and excellent stand ins.

My thoughts
I'm a big BTTF nerd, admittedly, and i love this game. Hoping the other games will be just as good, the design is good, art style is excellent, and the characters voicing and mannerisms are really good, especially considering some of the original actors aren't present, such as Marty, the main character. I'd recommend everyone who is a fan of the series to give it a try, it really is awesome!
I'm currently running through a let's play. No skipping of dialogue and no cut scene skipping either. Trying to make my commentary a bit better inbetween, but as a puzzle game i've already completed it's a bit difficult! Feel free to check it out, and i'll update it as i upload more parts! If your undecided about the game, watch the videos to try and see what it's like, and whether you like it. It follows a similar path to most point and click games, with inventory systems, and structured goals and storylines. Hint systems are available, but not needed if you play video games somewhat often!
Seems I'm outatime, ah well, happy time travelling Facepunch!

The game is great stop bitching
They should've made it something other than a puzzle game. BTTF as a puzzle game is shit.

Great Scott! You must of overshot it, Doc, you're 2 or 3 weeks ahead from it's release. Rev the DeLorean back up so we can get the hell out of here!
Don't understand it? It means you're as late as fuck.
My reaction to the animations;

BTTF should be a third person adventure game, not a point and click snore-venture.
Still, I do love BTTF and anything related to it.

I remember seeing this around on Steam. I hoped it was going to be similar to how you could drive the Delorean in one of those Crysis mods. Since I had no plans of buying it I guess I'll just watch your LP.

Yeah, i also hoped it would be an awesome 3rd person action game, but this change isn't too bad. I'm still hoping someone picks up the franchise to make a 3rd person action game with it, it would be really great nowadays.
I'll be uploading the last few parts of my LP tonight and tomorrow heh, can't wait for part 2!
edit:
fail automerge?
The animations and lip syncing are so shit,
However the story and puzzles make up for it greatly.
Free episode isn't available until February D:
Finished my LP and added to OP.

Go back to CoD. And I mean this literally since that's the only thread you visit other than occasionally creeping out to criticize other games.
