People begging for copies: Please don't go around looking for someone to gift it to you if it's just to pad your library out and you don't have any intent of playing it. We have a chance to bring the community back to life, and if all the extra copies just go to waste we've essentially ruined our chance. If you want to pad your library, pay the £7 for it. Please only ask for a gift if you intend to help the effort and play.
People sign on and get added to the bottom. People with keys give to the top, next person with keys give to the person who is put at the top.
Also please post in the thread who you are gifting it to so I can tick them off. Thanks.
Please use the list, it's not fair for people who have been waiting for days to have some guy who just found this thread to get it within minutes.
Hello Facepunch. I'm sure all of you, or most of you, know about the nice little game named The Ship. For those of you that don't know what it is, read below. Right now the new owners of Half-Life mod-gone-pro The Ship are offering a Christmas present to existing owners of the comedy assassination game. The deal is if someone buys the game, or already owns it, they get an extra copy to gift to on of their friends. When they gift it to their friend the friend ALSO gets an extra copy to gift to their friend. So there is pretty much an infinite amount of copies to be given away. That is what this thread is for.
UPDATES REGARDING KEYS
Anyone who doesn't yet own The Ship, it's currently got 50% off in the Steam sale, and this offer is available until the end of the sale, essentially making it a bargaintastic $9.99/£6.99 for four copies. As long as you buy it before the end of the sale, you qualify for the extra gift copies.

Howzit All
Just an update on the extra keys:
We're experiencing some technical difficulties, as I'm sure you're all aware....but Valve are looking into why the keys are not going through and everybody will get their keys as soon as soon as possible.
Apologies again for the delays!

"So at some point today, if you've been a Ship customer, have a look in Steam under Games/Manage Gifts and Guest Passes. In there, you'll find TWO FREE COPIES of the game you can send to friends and, if they activate their free copy, they get ANOTHER free copy."
Here's the article about this on RPS

And and Indie Games article for this game
http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1149439
Here is how it's going to work
Post in the thread asking to be queue'd and I'll queue you. read at the top of the queue list for the rest.
If you recieve a key from someone in this thread, you MUST gift it to another person in this thread, otherwise it just defeats the purpose.
For those of you that don't know what The Ship is, but is interested, read this
The Ship is a multiplayer game on Steam that uses the Source Engine. A playable concept for The Ship was released as a modification for the game Half-Life in 2004. The game's setting is on a 1920's cruise ship that each player is assigned a quarry, and they objective of the game is to murder him or her without anyone else seeing you, while at the same time watching out for, and defending yourself against, your own hunter.
If you've ever played multiplayer on Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, this is like that only you're on a boat with tons of different weapons to kill people with and you have basic stats such as Sleep, pee, shit, hunger, hygiene, ect. that you need to fulfil while you are trying to kill the person you're hunting. When you kill someone they drop money that you need to pick up and store in an ATM in order to win. The end is not really based on the player with those most kills, but whoever has to most money in the bank.

Here is the "Multiplayer Gameplay" section of the wikipedia article for this game
Each player is given a nickname by which they are identified. This is done to make it more difficult to tell players apart from NPCs, who have similar names and look the same as normal players. Each player is assigned a quarry, whom he or she must murder. The last known location of a player's quarry is always revealed to the player. However, the appearance of the quarry is only revealed if the player converses with the quarry.
There are several different weapons with which to eliminate one's quarry. Different amounts of money are rewarded for a kill depending on how difficult it is to use the weapon and how many times it has been used. If a player murders an NPC or anyone other than his or her quarry or hunter, a cash amount - dependent on the server settings - will be deducted from his or her bank account. Players with less than a certain figure, set by the server, in their bank account will be kicked from the cruise. Various weapons can be found scattered all around the ship, such as flare guns, fire axes, firearms, knives, swords, crowbars (which state "to be used by a free man" - an obvious reference to Half-Life's storyline), even secret traps provided just for killing your quarry, like falling lifeboats, saunas, freezers, even a deck that turns into a 60 degree angle by command, among others. If a player is seen holding a weapon or committing a crime, he or she will be fined and incarcerated for a short amount of time.
If a player is seen pulling out a weapon in front of a guard or a camera, or spotted by eyewitnesses, then they are sent to jail. There is an "eye" symbol in the player's HUD that tells them whether they are being spotted or not; if they are watched by security the eye turns red; if not, the eye is green. The meter for trespassing counts down and the player is fined when the countdown is complete (and, if they run out of money to pay the fines, go to jail). Guards can be bribed to overlook weapons.
Everyone has eight needs similar to The Sims. Such needs are eating, drinking, sleeping, socialising, maintaining proper hygiene and using the bathroom. Some of the needs would cause impairment, such as lack of sleep would cause the player to fall asleep on the spot. Other needs could become fatal, such as thirst and hunger. If the player does not fulfill these needs, he or she will die, resulting in a loss of $1000. Needs are stated by going to restaurants, taking showers, talking with other players, etc. This forces players into situations where they are vulnerable to attack, and also attempts to prevent players from camping.
Facepunch, we need to use necromancy to bring this game back from the dead. Very few people play it right now, but thanks to this deal we can change that if we work together as one. Now let the tread commence!

Look out for NPC's such as this guy because they can and will get you arrested if they spot you attempting to kill someone, including them. :v:
I remember this game. Was allot of fun, I especially liked the artstyle. I would install again if you guys wanted to play.
I'm willing to claim your extra.
Could I have an extra copy? This looks really fun.
(The people rating me dumb I was just telling the 2 above posters that I don't have that game.) goddamn just rate this post dumb
Op himself does not even have the game, I hate to say it but i can see where this thread is going.

All we need is one person with a copy of the ship to spark this thread going
I have it on Steam but I have no received said gift yet.
I started playing it when I got a guest pass before and it was pretty fun. I can't wait for people to start playing it again.

I'm going to guess that people who already have the game will have their keys by tomorrow or the day after.
When someone gets their keys, I would love to have one
i don't think steam sent out the keys yet.
p.s. i need a key
I also need a key.
This game looks awfully fun.
I remember the hl mod, it was really fun to play.
i remember a while back you could just hop onto their forums and ask for a guest pass and play for 2 days and you could keep doing that since members and the devs were handing them out like candy.
I'm willing to get a key and give the extra copy to someone else. Looks like a fun game.
[editline]e[/editline]
To clarify, I do not currently have the game.
Buying the game, I'll give my first gift to a friend, then he can chain it on to you guys :)
I'll have a key, please
.
This looks amazing, it's such a shame it's incredibly underrated like most non-valve Source games are.
Now if only I wasn't broke at the moment, already spent all my spare money on JC2.
I guess getting a key would be nice, but I don't exactly want to end up having to beg for one.
Reminds me of TTT
Wait, so if someone just owns the game, they get extra copies? Or do they have to buy it?
nevermind nope
it's more like assassin's creed
rather than there being traitors that have to kill all norm terrorists, you are given a contract to kill one person while somebody else has a contract to kill you
Wait, so if someone just owns the game, they get extra copies? Or do they have to buy it?
Everyone who owns the game gets a free extra copy.
Wait, so if someone just owns the game, they get extra copies? Or do they have to buy it?
I got 2 extra copies, giving both to friends though.
I need a key so I could play with you guys.
I need a key so I could play with you guys.
Same here. I loved the free weekend.
*insert shameless beg here*
*insert shameless beg here*
steam name?
why not just make it F2P?
If and when this idea is going to spark, I'd like a copy.
The game has always interested me with it's style.
I'll take a key, and then I will be sure to give people on here my extras.
