Hello people!
A fresh section need fresh rules, I've already begun to notice that the forums is already being clogged by threads that easily could have gone into the megathreads.
So what do you guys think would be good/bad rules?
Shoot!
Edit:
Remember that these rules exists:
http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1059753-Games-Section-Rules-*UPDATED-February-14th-2011*
Edit: I'll be back tomorrow!
No threads asking "Can you please Donate some money so i can get minecraft?"
No threads that have anything to do with "OMG WHY HEZZY STILL NOT MOD?!"
No threads outlining problems with Minecraft (Especially those saying "Can't connect to minecraft.net" I made a fucking fix thread for that) They can just ask in the Megathread here.
There's most likely some more people can come up with. But hopefully this can serve as a starting point.
Said this in the megathread, I still stand by my rules suggestions.
Use the megathreads
No "LOOK GUIS, WOO, FACEPUNCH!"
Wouldn't it be sensible to make a shortcut thread to Games section rules thread in this forum?
Oh, and no "look guys i made something" unless it actually deserves a thread
* Don't ask for someone to gift you the game
* Read and search for other threads that might fit your content before making one (technical help, videos, stuff you've built, etc.)
* Don't derail too much on the Chat Thread
* Think twice before making a thread - specially a contentless one
Still thinking on more
Yea, we can't should not anything against a little derail. It happens all the time.
Should custom map threads be OK?
y no shortcut Oicani?
I mean, people go straight to Minecraft forum and I don't think they will check GGD for rules in Minecraft forum. Not saying they shouldn't be punished just because they don't know the rules, but it's a logical thing to copy/link rules that apply for this forum.
* Don't derail too much on the Chat Thread - as in don't spread a non-Minecraft related subject for two pages
don't derail at all?
talk about minecraft
why would i have to be a regular to visit the MT? i've visited it a few times, but most of the times people are discussing something irrelevant or just posting "thread drama" or some other shit. talk about minecraft, if you want to have a chat with regulars get a steam group and use the chat? back in ggd the other megathreads tend to stay on topic
The off-topic drama is the biggest turn off in that thread. People walk in to post about minecraft instead come into some big fight and their posts get ignored because some idiots want to fight about dumb shit.
If anything the thread should no go off topic for any more then 2 posts. Beyond that it turns into a shitfest that has giving the thread a really bad name for itself.
It is indeed sometimes fun to watch drama break loose. But some control is needed when it happens.

Whoever isn't used to it thinks it's full of bullshit and doesn't like it.
And this is supposed to be good?
You'd have to be a regular to notice that offtopicness tends to work and the thread would be really boring and uninteresting without it. It's what makes all the funny and popcorn-worthy moments.
Whoever isn't used to it thinks it's full of bullshit and doesn't like it.
Think OIFY, same thing.
I am sorry but shutting people out like that because they are not "regulars" is really elitist and promotes an unfriendly environment to new people.
To avoid clogging up the section we should have stricter rules for making a thread and instead more megathreads.
For example
*Don't make threads that you think won't go further than five pages.
I like the concept with megathreads but there should still be normal threads that carries a discussion forward.
"You are not with the in-group so be quiet so that we can go on with the drama and derailing"
I fail to see how this is a good thing.
Oh, and no "look guys i made something" unless it actually deserves a thread
About this, a good formatted thread about something you made that you feel deserves a thread should be ok. If it sucks, just don't post in it and let it die.
Which leads to posting to say something sucks is bad, and that's a normal rule all around.
I know I shouldn't use this thread to say that, but I want to let you, Swebonny, know that you're awesome for letting the users decide which rules they want and think are important and which not.
No blogpunch stuff
A little bit of off topic may be good but no one wants to listen to you prattle on about your tetanus shot. Take it like a man, we aren't your support group.

May as well just put my username in there so it showed up on the ticker for me, it was obviously about me. :effort:
Oh god here it comes.
Things that are good to post:
Huge projects
Mods
Textures
maybe ideas?

There's already Megathreads for projects, mods, and texture packs. The only real exception is an FP user started making a really huge mod and it would clog the megathreads too much. Otherwise, no.
Asking for money/Minecraft should be a week ban automatically.

I think a page for updates would be good
Common Sense rules apply. Pointing out old or unimportant content ("Woo, Facepunch!" splash image, caves on surface, yada yada) definitely should not be a bannable offense, because what's old to all of you will inevitably be new to somebody else. Not knowing all the little quirks of your game doesn't mean they deserve a ban.
Common sense is the governing factor. It doesn't seem to me that the rules in this forum need be any different from the rules in the others. Stay on topic, no flaming, don't post contentless threads, etc, etc.

It's called the general chat thread for a reason. It isn't a megathread anymore because we have our own section now.
I never understood "There's an ignore feature. Don't use it".
wat?
I think a page for updates would be good
It would be much easier to just make a thread upon new updates
I never understood "There's an ignore feature. Don't use it".

When someone on your ignore list posts, their post stills appears and looks like a present dying to be opened. It's also caused tons of drama in the MCMT from what I've seen and heard.
