How to prevent people on friends list from seeing you as in a game?

So my situation is I added a co-worker to my friends list in Steam. Now when I work from home and want to play a round of COD, when I have a few min he can see that I'm playing games. I don't want to remove him from my friends list because I still have to work with the guy.... Will blocking him make it so that he can't see when I'm in a game?
Thanks
Go offline
I think it shows you as in a game even if you are not signed into chat.
Then don't mix work and pleasure?
If you block him I believe you appear offline on his list. No sure.
You can set yourself offline from friends, like Away, Busy etc.
It's sad though, the friend-list says "You are currently set to appear offline to all your Friends."

if you block him you don't recieve any messages from him.
If you knew he was going to rat you out for taking a break, why did you add him in the first place?
another way : add a meaningless software to your steam list - like notepad or mspaint.
"Play" it, then play whatever you want at the same time. Your status will always remember/keep the first thing you play.

This is probably the only solution that will let you stay online and "hide" your "in-game" status. Atleast it won't show the real game you are playing.
Just go offline :v:

no

You can also try and rename your game's .exe file to Notepad or MS Paint or whatever.
Hehe, I once renamed my Marathon.exe to GAYNIGGERS FROM OUTER SPACE and added it to my Library, people instantly asked me en masse what kinda game it's supposed to be.

I want to say I remember this... But I'm not sure if I am or my mind is just creating a false-memory.

Hah.
Actually, I'm curious how you do this. I've seen other people do it. Doesn't renaming it screw up the game files or something?

1) Create a shortcut of the exe (not through steam)
2) Add it as a non-steam game
3) Right click on the shortcut inside of steam, select "properties", and you can rename it to whatever the hell you want in there.
It doesn't keep track of any of your achievements/stats though, and i'm pretty sure it would mess up any game that uses steam-based invites.

You don't need to go into properties and change it.
Just the name of the shortcut.
Yeah the lack of private playing is really something of a shame on steam.
