Righto, well I am ordering Battlefield 2 tonight (rate me late if you wish.), I heard a lot about this project reality mod, I know the basics of it, it's just making it alot more realistic, but my question is, How is it like, it is like Operation Flashpoint:DR where you would walk for a mile, see a couple of people, get shot because your too far away, or is it decent, does it improve features of the game, does it make it more fun. I know this isn't very thread worthy, but I don't think their isnt any BF2 megathread, so this seemed like the best place to ask.
Its fun if you find the realistic feel to it fun. If youre shit walk a mile see some guys you go down before they do. If you play properly you wait for a helicopter tell them where to take you then go from there, if you die your squad should have a medic to revive you. The idea is to either pick off people at stupid distances, flank them or shoot them if they dont see you other wise you'll die before they will EDIT: It also adds more classes, guns, factions and better maps.
It's the walk for a mile , exchange fire for a while, retreat heal and then get back in there which is fun. [editline]06:29PM[/editline] And if you intend on playing PR at all, i recommend playing with a group of people you know, and you should have a microphone, otherwise any type of tactics are a waste of effort.

I played Dragon Rising, and to me they feel the same. Project Reality offers a much better multiplayer experience, though. Much more content and interesting maps. Teamwork is essential. Make sure you have a microphone, and read the manual while you're downloading. It'll make things a thousand times easier to understand, and people will like you twice as much. Project Reality is not exactly beginner-friendly.
There are many different roles in Project Reality, all depending on your personal taste. If you're a pacifist (like me), you can fly transport choppers and get squads where they need to be, you can drive APCs and have your gunner do all the shooting, or you can be a medic, the most important man in a squad, and heal and revive fellow squad mates. If you're just a guy who wants to kill, than pretty much every other job you got will be fun for you. Teamwork is very important, get a microphone, and especially read the manual. PR has a very steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it'll be a smooth ride all the way to the enemies' door steps. There are lots of diverse factions and game modes. The mod is constantly updated by huge updates that happen at least twice a year. The OP just gave me the inspiration to create a Battlefield Series megathread.
Great mod, I recommenced this to anyone who owns BF2 and is looking for a realistic game with tons of teamwork.
How does DR feel anything like PR?
The radial command menu, for one, although Project Reality's is much nicer.
PR is moving to Crysis right?
I thought it was ARMA 2 they were moving to.
In my opinion, it's the most enjoyable reality sim out there because it's not like Arma where you walk for an hour and don't see shit, but it's not as arcadey as BF2. You'll be confused at first, but one you get into a good viop squad it gets really fun. Action isn't around every corner, but when you do get in a firefight it gets pretty intense because they last a while. Sneaking around, setting up rally points, doing reconnaissance, and laying mines is fun too.

You walk for an hour and not see shit either because someone killed all of the enemies or you're not in the mission area/sidemission area.
PR is moving to Crysis right?
No there is a PR2 in the works using some engine they got the license for.

There are plenty of missions like that. And most have vehicles for you to use, not walk everywhere, because that's just really dumb. In the editor, it's just what you make that makes that happen.
PR is not moving anywhere away from BF2. Yes, they are developing a version on Arma 2, but they aren't completely moving there. PR2 is a long ways off and being developed on the C4 Engine which they acquired. Don't expect PR-BF2 to stop being developed anytime soon. There are 4 parallel versions of PR being developed right now: Project Reality - Battlefield 2 Mod Project Reality Vietnam - Battlefield 2 Mod Project Reality - Arma 2 Mod Project Reality 2 - Standalone on C4 Engine
You can walk a mile to your target, but theres more involved with it. Theres communicating with your squadmembers, playing with friends, flying helis/planes. It's a lot different from the actual game, which is what amazes me.
Project Reality is easily one of the most immerse games ive played. I haven't played a single modern shooter which has got this much level of realism and depth. Its absolutely amazing to play. Every aspect of the game is memorable. Ive written a few stories of things that happened in my first rounds of PR on the forums somewhere. TL;DR Version: Download the mod ASAP. Also, get a working mic. It enhances the experience tenfold.
I play this game so much and have so much fun. Last night I was on Kashan Desert with a friend of mine and we were on the MEC team and he drove a T-72 Tank while I gunned and we worked our way onto a mountain aiming at North and South bunkers and I got 25 kills in one single tank taking out US troops from around 900 meters away with devastating HEAT rounds, but so sadly that all ended when we got lased and an A10 strafed us. But that was best I've ever done in a tank, 25 consecutive kills. If anyone wants to play sometime and has a mic just send me a message.
I'd reinstall BF2 and PR just for this but i'm afraid i don't wanna get a 2gb patch then a 10gb mod on a 5 gb game.
I'd reinstall BF2 and PR just for this but i'm afraid i don't wanna get a 2gb patch then a 10gb mod on a 5 gb game.
It does take a lot of space and time but it's worth it.
It does take a lot of space and time but it's worth it.
PR takes alot of time too, even after installing. My biggest gripe with PR was time. I load up the game, find a server, join in. (Takes about 10 minutes on this old machine). Then I find the appropriate squad and group up with them, because they're usually across the map. (About 10-15 minutes)Then when things get really good, I have to disconnect because the stove got on fire. Reconnecting and regrouping with the squad takes another great deal of time. Play PR when no one is home.
PR is moving to Crysis right?
No. BF2PR will continue to be developed for. BF2PR: vietnam is also in development. ArmA PR is a seperate project and does not have any effect on the BF2 version. PR was never moving to crysis, however the PR team is developing a full PR commercial game from the ground up on a new engine. The Crytek engine was looked at, but is not the engine they chose.
