What are the best PC co-op games to play with a friend?

A friend of mine has got a PS3 at the moment, but is getting a PC at christmas. We want to play on some great co-op games that are quite old but date to the modern day too.
We have Left 4 Dead 1+2 in mind already, synergy for the HL2 campaign, COD 5 co-op (not too keen on Modern Warfare 2 at the moment though)
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I assume you are looking for a FPS.
Serious Sam HD springs to mind.
If you are looking to play a real time strategy, I suggest getting Dawn of War (not dow II) and the ork swarm mod and playing you and him vs one ork bot on hard. Me and profanwolf do that sometimes while on vent (being on vent is half of the fun)

The HD version on Steam is Co-op and :iia:
Star Wars: Republic Commando is a really fun co-op game. Not too active lately but it's still alive.
To be honest, Modern Warfare 2 Spec Ops mode is a load of fun, despite all the shit the game gets.

I find Resident 5 quite fun with my friend.
An oldie is to play BF2 on coop and set the bots to the other team, then defend one point from waves of them. Set their skill to the lowest possible thing and its like fighting wave of zombies with guns.
Added MW2 to the list.
Dawn of War 2 has a new Last Stand co-op mode, where 3 players play as heroes (either ork, marine, or eldar) against waves of tyranids.. Also, the campaign can be played co-op. And last, you can always skirmish with bots.

For reals? Of course the old one was Coop. That's the only reason I played it.
Saints Row 2, if you can get it to run smoothly.
