Roguelikes, being the genre of kings (and the true last bastion of PC superiority, whatever), deserve better.
who's still playing roguelikes in this day and age and what games are you playing. no DF discussion here please. take it to the df thread. The current upcoming big names in the roguelike world are
1) incursion, developed by julian mensch, using a heavily modified d20 3.5E ruleset. Additions include a revamped armor system, a ton more feats, skills being useful and a bunch of more stuff
2) dungeon crawl stone soup (a gay aspie roguelike for kids)
3) JADE (sequel to ADOM, created by roguelike superstar T-Bup)
4) Dwarf Fortress, needs no introduction, is unique mainly because its creator has an incredibly rare and potent strain of autism.
5) Mage guild. You play a mage (whos probably in a guild of some sort). You fling spells and use alchemy which allows you to combine almost all items with each other to form useful things.
of course there's also teh golden oldies of the roguelike scene
1) Nethack (probably the most popular roguelike, can be kind of stupid at times)
2) Angband and its millions of variations (ownage roguelike for cool kids)
3) Rogue and Hack (i dont think anyone even plays these anymore theyre so old)
4) Moria (i dont actually know much about moria :sweatdrop: but w/e)
im still playing through incursion now and then while playing ADOM from time to time (got a gray elf weed wizard who's already tackled the tower of eternal flame but still needs a wish to get past khelevaster without killing him... annoying.) logs and screenshots and all that crap, post them here.
take it easy.
They are not "The last true bastion of PC superiority".
What? toady from dwarf fortress has autism?
You are a nerd if you know all the games the OP talked about without googling... :(
I like Stone Soup, and have played DF for years.

stone soup is for babies. let me guess.. you play with tiles?
nobody with any social life has any fucking patience for these kind of games
but i agree when I do have large amounts of spare time, some DF does kill time

well one i don't do drugs because my life is fine without them
and two you know I do like to go outside with my friends and do stuff often so uh, i can't exactly play roguelikes seriously
and lastly, i don't have a moustache, i'm smart enough to know that shaving before the age of 18 is a good idea and do it on a daily basis
I liked Dungeon Crawl before it became Stone Soup. So much unnecessary shit.
I've completed Nethack once, with a Valkyrie. You don't want to know how long I've played it to achieve it (I did it last year).
DF isn't really a roguelike, but it's great.
Throw IVAN into the list, it's brilliant
