No Harvest Moon games please, I own a lot but they just aren't that great. I am currently playing Farmville and it's ok but something better is always good, any suggestions?

If you want to raise animals and grow crops, you can level out your own field with the terraforming, and then plant the crops you want, raise the animals you want, feed them, tame them, breed them (breeding good traits and eliminating bad ones a.k.a. "TO THE GLUE FACTORY WITH YOU!")
It's pretty cool, and as another poster said, villages are always looking for a dedicated farmer. Often, the farmers tend to get involved with tailoring, cooking, and other farming related tasks. Tailors might work leather and/or cloth, both of which have specific and in demand products: cloth for sails (shipbuilding... yes, you can build ships) and leather for armor. Cooking is pretty self explanatory, but the game does offer things like bread and cheese for you to make, and there's always fishing if you're low on meat. There are lots of different recipes. Another important task farmers often take up is ropemaking. Ropes are also needed for ships, and ships make quite a bit of money if you like making them.
That's just one set of interlinked skills. Also related: you can also grow trees/bushes, and they can be harvested for certain products at certain times of the year, like olives (olive oil is used when making compasses and for lantern fuel) maple (used for stamina boosting drinks), and grapes (for wine, also a great stamina boost, which increases in quality overtime).
Harvest moon if you want a relaxing experience

Read the fucking OP.
Dwarf Fortress.
Why the fuck are you against Harvest Moon?
You could try Farm Hands, it has multiplayer of up to 4 players. It's a bit confusing to start up, if you want to play by yourself you have to set up a server and play on your own server. Best to use Hamachi if you want to invite friends. There's Harvest gamemode/maps for Obsidian Conflict.
Rune Factory 1, 2, or Frontier.
It's a spin-off of Harvest Moon. If you don't like Harvest Moon you may not like Rune Factory, but it's worth a look.
Basically, take Harvest Moon. Now take Diablo. Now shove them together. Poof: Rune Factory.
