Hey, i plan on starting a new SP game on D2. I haven't played in age, and i'd like to create a character that is not an assassin or a necro. What do you think i should try? And what build should i try?
You should try a druid summoner.
Druid all the way.
More detail, seriously? (I heard druid sucked by a friend :ohdear: )
I built a frenzy barb and I successfully got to hell(the difficulty) with /players 8 on most of the time, except for when I was fighting nightmare Baal. For weapons, axes are the way to go if you are considering end game items, due to lower stat requirements and higher damage per hit. When you start getting to the end of normal and are about to start nightmare, you should get weapons that give crushing blow, which takes out a percentage of the monster's health per hit. The runeword "Black" is good if you get your hands on an IO rune. Melee characters tend to rely heavily on equipment. For my frenzy barb, I farmed nightmare Mephisto for a full day to get decent melee weapons, and I was lucky and got an exceptional unique weapon from normal Baal, which pretty much carried me through nightmare. I don't think Druid summoners are good enough to make it to hell if you're playing single player. I got a fury druid to the beginning of nightmare, but then stopped playing because I got bored. However, if you plan on getting to the later difficulties and plan on having a relatively easy time, stick with a caster, like a hammerdin or a dual element sorc(frozen orb and meteor seems to be popular online). They are much less gear-dependent than melee characters. And if you plan on farming bosses, don't turn /players 8 on. It increases the drop rate of items very slightly, but makes the boss fights last much longer.
What're you talking about.
I'm always partial to WW Barbs. Sorcs are nice too. I usually use a blizz sorc but thats just for mfing online.
welp nevermind figured out what /players 8 does.
Elemental Druids and Fury Druids are both incredible. They do not require a lot of gear to be effective, either.
Making a Character is very easy in Diablo 2. All you need to do is pick a class, and decide from it's skill tree what you want to specialize in while also putting into account how to make up for your weaknesses. For example, I have a build simply named the Vengeance Paladin. It's strength is dealing massive elemental damage while reducing enemies elemental resistance. It's weakness is lack of energy. To make up for it, mana charms and mana leach are good options. Also always put into consideration the Synergies that were added several patches ago. These boost some skills so always try and find the optimal way to boost a skill without wasting any points. Again as an example I find that putting skills into resist frost/fire/light are more beneficial than the ultimate resist of all three which grants less bonus. Whatever you choose, research that class.
What about a good sorc?
try something that hasn't been overused, like don't make lightning/ice sorc or hammerdins or trapsins, make something harder to play as like curse only necro or pure mastery barb.

Also, I suggest making an online character, ladder or otherwise, and just play alone. That way, if you wanna play with some friends or just chill online, you can.
IT's my friend CD, so i can't go online :ohdear: But i want to try sorc... What could be a good sorc?
I was finally able to make it work with W7. So i make this little bump. Anyone has an idea for a good Sorc? (SP)
I personally think starting a Lightning sorc would be best if you have no gear. They can be strong throughout the game. I always started out with a sorc then went to hammy. After that, I do my awesome characters. Such as Wind Druid, Trap Assasin(lol, I know noobish), and Chaos Barbarian. :D

You mean places to level up from 1 to High level?
Cold sorc is good too due to enemies slowing down which is useful pretty much everywhere
Well, not to the VH level but you know, the 20 first ones.
Cold sorc is good too due to enemies slowing down which is useful pretty much everywhere
That is true. I always loved cold sorcs but lightning is the way to go tbh. They are more powerful. One thing about cold sorcs I always loved is that you don't need to max at literally anything, Which gives you the advantage to use Energy Shield to where it barely brings down your mana. I wanted more like you know, the skills :v:!
Make sure you attempt to sign into battle.net so it gives you the latest patch. The latest patch(1.13) adds stat resets, which are useful if you wanna respec. You only get one per difficulty though, so yeah. Here are some basics for just about every sorc. Necessary sorc skills:

Warmth (gives you constant passive mana regen)
Teleport (easy way to get around, very useful)
Frozen armor (gives a defense boost and freezes enemies who attack you)
Static (cuts enemy's HP by a fraction)
You can get away with putting just one point into these. Teleport takes up a lot of mana, and you may not be able to spam it without proper gear. Static is used to quickly drain a boss's HP. Very useful. How to spend your stat points:

Strength - Enough for equipment.
Dexterity - None
Vitality - Most of your points go here
Energy - Little or none here.
Spending most points into vitality is important if you plan on getting to the last difficulty(Hell), as most of the monsters do a decent amount of damage. With the stat resets, you can stray from this pattern a couple of times(once per difficulty!!), but I wouldn't make a habit of it. If I were to make a sorc with this current patch in single player, I'd probably just spend points into both vitality and energy as I needed them until I got to nightmare, and then respec with the nightmare respec. Frozen orb sorc:

20 into ice bolt
20 into frozen orb
20 into ice mastery
Frozen orb sorcs beast at farming bosses, but are kind of hard to use in the beginning due to lack of skills. Ice bolt is weak, and you can't get frozen orb until level 30. If you choose to go with a frozen orb sorc, spend in whatever skills you want to until level 30, then use the skill reset and start putting into the frozen orb skills. Don't forget to get teleport/warmth/frozen armor. Lightning sorc:

20 into charged bolt
20 into chain lightning
20 into lightning
20 into lightning mastery
1 into thunderstorm
Lightning sorcs have more power in the beginning of the game, and there are fewer monsters in the end of the game who are immune to lightning. With maxed out gear, they are fast killers, but do not expect to hit this point if you are playing single player. Frozen orb sorcs are more effective at killing, but are slower in the beginning and have more immune monsters to deal with in hell. Meteorb sorc(Meteor + Frozen orb):

20 into fire ball
20 into meteor
20 into fire mastery
20 into frozen orb
20 into cold mastery
This build is most reliable in terms of hell difficulty, because it doesn't need to worry too much about immunes. Meteor is a beastly spell, and frozen orb is also good on its own. In the beginning, stick with using the fire tree, while getting the cold skills necessary to get frozen orb and cold mastery. Cold mastery should be the last skill that you start maxing out. For gear, you want things that give +skills relevant to your build. Extra life and mana is always useful on equipment.
