Well, valve already confirmed Episode 3 as a sequel which will end it so no Half Life 3.

I think it's pretty obvious that the complete lack of news since Ep2's release implies they are creating a new game-engine for a new game.
If they try and release a full Episode 3, a proper sequel to Half-Life 2 and a full-length game, on the Source Engine then they will be a laughing stock.
