Pardon my newness, not sure if this is the right place to post this.
A while back there was some positive talk here about a relatively obscure HL1 mod known as "Half Life: Weapon Edition." ([url]http://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-weapon-edition[/url])
Well I decided to try out the mod, and everything installed and worked fine, the only problem was that all of my games running off the HL1 engine ended up using the games custom UI setup

I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing all of my HL1 games (Half Life, Sven, Weapon Edition etc) and yet when I re-install them the still have the black UI. They also show the default blank page icon on the task bar, rather than the official game icon.

I hope that one of you will have a solution to this other than totally re installing steam.

Try deleting steamapps/account/half-life folder. Some resource files from the mod probably got there.

Oh, you might want to keep save games and configs.
Wouldn't those files have gotten deleted when I uninstalled?
Just delete everything in steamapps/username/half-life except for the mods. (HL: Weapons edition's folder name should be hl15we)

That didn't seem to do anything.
If it helps, I had recently uninstalled HLWE and installed a recent version which was just a zip with the files in it. So my folder is just hlwe
