Well, I understand that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 is supposed to be the end, but then I hear that Half-Life 3 is going to be made. Does anyone know any actual information about a Half-Life 3? I don't understand how a Half-Life 3 would be done, is Half-Life purely based on Gordon Freeman, or is the name Half-Life going to be capable for other adventures?
There is no actual information on EP3 or HL3.
I think a few EXTREMELY generic concept sketches, but they dont bring anything conclusive.
Gabe already stated in an interview somewhere that the Half-Life 2 Episodic trilogy is basically "Half-Life 3". He said in retrospect, they probably could have picked a better name for it.
But I think I remember hearing somewhere that they planned to end Gordon's journey after Episode Three and either end the series there or take it in a new direction. Of course all of that could have possibly changed by now, but that's what I know.
I heard from an old interview (from before ep2) that the plan was to have the 3 episodes, take a break, then work on hl3.
They'll probably make a game that shows what happens during the 7 hour war and you play as barney.
Ah, I found it: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/i_valve_060606
Probably a better name for it would have been Half Life 3: Episode One, but these three are what we're doing as our way of taking the next step forward, but Half-Life 2 was the name we used.
I still don't get what his reasoning is here, though. It kind of just sounds like "Well it could have been called Half-Life 3 , but well um, we just kind of didn't I guess. Or something. v:v:v"
Half-Life 3 [a.k.a. Episodes One to Three] is about the relationship with the G-Man and what happens when he loses control of you, when you're not available to him as a tool and how he responds to that, and what are the consequences of that.
He also calls the episodic series an "arc", so there's a possibility for future arcs in the series. This is Valve, though, and they seem to make a lot of different decisions on the fly; we'll just have to wait and see.

Take a break? Thats like 20 years VALVe time.

Made me think of the G-Man as Gordon's girlfriend that is kicking him out of the apartment because he won't be a bitches bitch.

Except it's actually more about Gordon trying to escape from his psychotic girlfriend but the girlfriend keeps following him around. :v:
Ah, I kind of get it now.

Half-Life: Dating Problems
lmao
Half Life 2's episodes are titled under HL2 because they fit into the substory of City 17, the Combine, 7 Hour War, etc. Valve has stated that Episode Three will be the end of the HL2 series, but not necessarily the end of Half Life.
This basically means that Ep3 will end the whole story with Alyx and the Combine, but will probably end up with the Gman putting Gordon back in stasis and then pressing the FFWD button on time like he did in HL1.
I wonder what EP3 will look like. It's taking so long to even be announced that we might get invaded by the combine before they do it.
So Gordon gets send 1000 years in the future to the destroyed aperture science complex and saves chell?

Portal takes place at more or less the same time period as the Seven Hour War/Pre-Freeman Combine Era.

Portal 2.

Takes place almost immediately after Portal.

"Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years after the first game."
Official words.

Or maybe back in time to kill the ancestors of everyone that have played a major part in Half Life, which includes his own ancestors. As everything was his fault.

But then he realises this makes him not exist, so he goes back to the future to save Sarah Connor.

That just can't be right. Source?
^Chell was put into stasis
Well, at the end of Half-Life 1, Gordon was put into stasis. End of Half-Life 2, Gordon was kinda put into stasis again. So, G-man or whoever he works for uses Gordon to change things dramatically to ultimately help humanity. But is Gordan going to stay out of stasis and live out life without just being used since the Vortiguants are keeping G-man away from Gordon? And will Episode Three have us put back into stasis until Half-Life 3? All we can do is guess until VALVe announces something.
I really doubt he won't be put back in stasis. Old man Gordon doesn't seem like exciting gameplay to me.

That was back in 2006. Things change. They could be making Half-Life 3 now instead of continuing the episodes.

Gabe took back what he said in that in an interview in late 2008 or 2009

This does make sense. Because of how overgrown it got. I know it doesn't take long for stuff to become overgrown, but like for it to spread on the concrete and break it and stuff it may take years, so maybe not hundreds of years, but most likely a big time gap.
I believe a better question than the thread title would be "Will there be an Episode 3?"
What's with all of your topics?!
"What the point of Portal 2?"
"Will there be a Half-Life 3?"
"Will there be a Left 4 Dead where all the survivors meet?"
"Why is it never sunny in Left 4 Dead 2?"
Anyways, yes, there will be a Half-life 3. Just not anytime soon. But seriously, are you trying to make dumb threads?
