Before you say I did something wrong, wait.
I followed the tutorials to the letter. I DID do startmovie xxx avi to the file.
I KNOW it's supposed to lag on recording. But, when I move the mouse at all, the view jumps around and doesn't move smoothly like on other Source Recorder videos.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can someone help me?
PS: Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel GMA 4500, 3GB RAM, ??? VRAM

Oh, and it's a laptop, so don't tell me to upgrade my video card because I can't.
And don't say I can't do it, either. I know I can, I've done it without moving the view and it works fine.

Are you SURE you did EVERY SINGLE STEP?
I only tried the demo => AVI method. I will try this method later, because my HDD space is limited.
Would there be any other reason for this?
I'm guessing your CPU isn't powerful enough to encode the AVI on the fly.
So yeah, If you render it to frames (tga) then make them into an avi it should be okay, but it might take a while.
Just Fraps it with record settings maxed out.

I'd love to spend 5 gigs for a 6 minute video.
Record, edit, export, 7zip. :smug:
Not using Fraps, been disappointed with it ever since it caused a BSOD on my desktop from which it could not recover (the codec F***ED up my entire system, not even Microsoft is sure how it happened). I will have to try recording to the tga file. My CPU isn't that fast, so I will have to try this out. Thank you!
Make sure your using host_framerate too!
If you don't have a lot of HDD space to give up, you might as well give up on machinima making
Oops, I was looking at my recovery partition instead of my HDD. I apparently have 222 GB free, so space isn't an issue, and I don't want to make a serious machinima (otherwise I wouldn't ask). This is mainly for one-shot, humorous clips like in lots of other machinima. I do use host_framerate. Thank you all for your help on this; I really appreciate it.

The raw recording works perfectly! Thank you all so much!
