Probably Common but I can't seem to find help anywhere. Steam won't connect to the internet.

So, I'm just playing games and I go to eat dinner. I come back, turn on my computer. And then I get steam saying this.
Steam.exe (main exception): to run Steam, you must first connect to the internet
Now, its been acting weird for atleast three months now. Constantly verifying files and actually making it generally very annoying to play my games. This pops up and I've had this before so I just moved all my games to my extra hard drive which I was planning on doing anyway, uninstall and then reinstall steam.

The fuck, I'm connected to the internet. I'm typing on here now through that desktop, it just hangs at update and then tells me.

Why does steam hate us? I honestly want to know what causes this and why it haunts me, because this is the third time I've had this issue through my 4 years of using Steam. WHY!?
I'm having a similar problem. Besides constantly verifying files, because I was unable to connect to multiplayer servers I uninstalled TF2 with the intent of reinstalling, but now I think I've discovered why because the reinstall download never starts because "Steam's servers are currently too busy. Try later."
