Okay, I've been playing games like Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead for a while and my mom, who saw a 5-second clip of Left 4 Dead 2 on the Colbert Report, got crazy on me and is now nagging me to find blood modifications for Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. Can ANYONE help me to think of something to say to explain to her that it is not the end of the world if a zombie's head explodes? (I just realized what I did there.) Frankly I don't want to find an Australian copy of the game either. Frankly, it doesn't feel like Left 4 Dead to me without blood.

I doubt she's going to change her mind based on advice you got from internet people, no matter how reasonable it sounds. Left 4 Dead 2 has a high and low gore option which I haven't touched, that might appease her sense of outrage.
Simply sit down, and discuss the issues. Ask her how she thinks the blood will affect your mentality, and then question her as to whether it has done so far?
Put forward the point that games are a great stress relief, and the blood is simply a visual payoff for defeating an enemy, much in the way that points were a payoff in the old atari games.
My parents disliked blood and gore, until they realised that I was the most polite 9 year old in my entire school, was doing very well at school, and was a perfectly reasonable person, despite having played half-life since the age of 6.

No because that makes it sound like the only reason you try to defeat enemies is to see their blood, and are therefore a psycho.

My computer is actually pretty good IMO. It has an ATI Radeon 4670 Video Card, so I can handle it pretty easily. I think partially what happened with my mom is that she just prefers different forms of entertainment. She's never really liked video games, period. Some people can handle violence, other people can't I suppose.
Fortunately my parents aren't too bothered about violence in games. It hasn't changed my outlook on real life one b-MUTILATE THE INNOCENT!

The reason why people find it fun to do bad things in games is because they can't do them in real life.
We've all wondered what we'd do if we were in a war, or we were in a survival situation, and games just let us live those fantasies.
Case and point, Left 4 Dead 2. Left 4 Dead 2 gives us a way to see what could happen if we were in a zombie apocalypse, something many people think about.
If you're a nice chap, just point out that games haven't been detrimental at all to your personality.
If not, punch her in the face and shout "FUCK YOU!", which is what I assume you would do anyway.

Gears of War wouldn't be nearly as satisfying if you couldn't pop off the enemies heads with the sniper rifle.
