I have came across this article and am very excited about valve fixing up Source SDK and Hammer! :psypop: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/02/23/valve-working-on-making-source-sdk-less-painful-to-use/ Edit: RATE! ME! CLOCKS! I wanna beat the clock record!
So people will finally understand how the use Hammer and maybe I can make a decent map? FINALLY!!!!!!
Proboably means we'll have alot more people trying out to make maps in source
Proboably means we'll have alot more people trying out to make maps in source
This would make hammer more used, since its very hard to use some tools like not being able to flip a model horizontal or vertically. The displacement tool could be worked on as well as a new layout.
the current SDK is such a nightmare. quake compiling tools from 1996, and it's 15 years later :smith:
The Hammer is kinda confusing when i use it, Made some cool maps and all but since it's hard to use i aint good at it. thank god they are making it less painful though :buddy:
Hammer is like.. the easiest mapping program ever. But the easier the better.
If they make my map obsolete, I'mma be pissed. But, yeah, I would really like to see an update.
I find the sdk a little too confusing, thank god Valve is doing something.
Hammer is like.. the easiest mapping program ever. But the easier the better.
Not really, it's pretty complex and confusing if you aren't used to it. [editline]26th February 2011[/editline] I tried it once, but I took forever to do even the simplest things, so I gave up.

If you follow some tutorials you can understant the hammer basics, but it's a bit hard to use the tools I'm glad to know that they're finally simpliying hammer
Now, I am not the best mapper there is. But I do hope that by simplifying, they would only make the interface more user friendly, rather than taking away options that might seem redundant (because those might be of some use). But hey, as long as they add more features, I'd be happy.
Hammer's interface is okay, it's just that it takes forever to do some simple things — also, how the Texture and Model browsers behave is really just clunky (permanently load the textures into the RAM, yay)
eh, game dev programs always should require good pcs to run them
[img_thumb]http://i542.photobucket.com/albums/gg410/Mr_Someguy/map.jpg[/img_thumb] That was my first map, took over an hour to do something that simple.
Hammer is really, really easy to learn when your new but if you want to make anything good it takes alot of effort compared to say the UDK.

Whats with all the lates! I thought I wasn't late this time :sympathy:
Hammer is really, really easy to learn when your new but if you want to make anything good it takes alot of effort compared to say the UDK.
That's because the UDK is in every way better. It's on an infinitely better engine too. Hammer is a pain in the ass to use, and too confusing to use to much potential (hardly anyone uses Source for AAA titles).
except the UDK doesnt even have a proper IDE, lol
Hammer isn't difficult to use if you have a brain.
Hammer isn't difficult to use if you have a brain.
You sound like" "If you're smart it's automatically easy hurr durr"
It kind of is though, you just make simple structures out of blocks + You can texture seperate faces. You don't need to know how to model + UV and all this other complex stuff
It kind of is though, you just make simple structures out of blocks + You can texture seperate faces. You don't need to know how to model + UV and all this other complex stuff
Who do you think I am, JLea or something?
for the love of god DON'T FUCK OVER THE BRUSHMAKING SYSTEM, PLEASE
for the love of god DON'T FUCK OVER THE BRUSHMAKING SYSTEM, PLEASE
Knowing valve they break most things when they release an update...
Knowing valve they break most things when they release an update...
"The Hammer update makes everything more user-friendly with a few extra tools. Oh, and it broke the Texture Application tool. We'll look into it."

I don't care a lot for the upgrade of Hammer. I'd moreso enjoy the process of getting a model into the game being simplified.
