Is this guy for real? It's been going on for a while now, I can't update Steam because at 100% it this pops up and Steam Updater says some file can't be found.
why do you even use AVG
why do you even use AVG
It came with the computer three years ago and I haven't bothered to change it because I never get visible viruses. I'm not so good at this software thing. [editline]29th November 2012[/editline] I am just Cheryl Cole
Microsoft Security Essentials is better than AVG... that's not a good thing.
OK guys I get it, just point me towards the antivirus software that you use, uninstall AVG and I'll install that. Will I be able to run Steam if I change my antivirus?
yes, i use eset
yes, i use eset
How long does the free trial last? I don't really want to pay for it. (not condoning warez) (i know how zealous moderators are)
ESET 1 Year is pretty good, I own it.
I'm downloading it. This thread was worthwhile, now I have a working antivirus AND I can play Steam! [editline]29th November 2012[/editline] It's been installing drivers at 100% for a while now...
If you don't want to pay for ESET go with Avast or MSE they're both actually pretty good
Microsoft Security Essentials had to turn itself off for a major update, my laptop turned on AVG (came with it, can't uninstall it) as it's main antivirus, it claimed Adobe Flash CS6 Professional was a compressed trojan and removed major files from it, breaking the program. 400 dollars wasted
AVG gives me false positives all the time, every other scan yields something in my cookies which is randomly named text file. But it's free and I don't get viruses. (When I do I use it as an excuse to format.)
AVG was actually slowing down my computer more than I realized. Replacing it with MSE has really helped.
Avast is also free and considerably better than AVG.
Haven't used anti-virus since I was 15 or something. Not got a virus. In the past year, though, my sister has got lots of malware and shit WITH an anti-virus...

Most viruses are meant to be stealthy, stealing information over time without alerting the user.

Whoops
I use avast Pro, and its awesome and really light on my machine.
How do you know? Most viruses are meant to be stealthy, stealing information over time without alerting the user.
He probably means no real-time AV but checks every once in a while to make sure all's still good. Or at least I hope that's what he does.
How do you know? Most viruses are meant to be stealthy, stealing information over time without alerting the user.
Because I dont go on dumbshit websites, I have been years without A/V, then installed NOD32 and had zero. And Malwarebytes, Zero. Viruses are about how stupid the user is.
correction: viruses are about how careless the user is. it's not stupid to think "hey this might be a virus" before clicking every link. sure if it looks suspicious then it's common sense, but you can't call someone stupid for getting a virus when most good ones are likely to find a way to you eventually.

Fuck avg, it became unbelievably shitty over the last years.
one does not just simply, UNINSTALL... and antivirus
Once I got this... Yes I suck at cropping screenshots.
Yes I suck at cropping screenshots.
Alt+Print Screen, takes only a screenshot of the current window in focus.

Dumbshit websites like that. You're full of shit if you have zero viruses with how little you know about how they spread.
