• Alice the Game (Half-life 2 Mod) Help wanted.

Greetings, First of all I should introduce myself: I am Sam de Jong, currently I am leading the making of Alice the game. Simply put: I or rather we need help. For those who are interested or those who haven't decided yet, this is the plot: You play the character Alice, Basicaly the whole game revolves around one question: What if Edgar Allan Poe wrote Alice in wonderland and not Lewis Carrol? The game will be a mix of puzzels (such as seen in Half life 2) and action. Which you will get depends on the desitions you take. for more information pm me at my steam account: [AtG]The Skyte. Additional information: Steam group: Alice the game (http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AlicetheGame) participants: [eM.]Mega1mpact,Zilla and Alachast and Steak. I would love to hear if you are interested. For Concepts please see my deviantArt account: Sam-Youth-Steamworks. Also we still need: -modelers -animators -level editors etc also We need to split up the modeling into 4 seperate parts: being: concept modeling (details etc.) rigging exporting Since there are so many questions about the plot I'm going to put on the whole story. First of all how the game is going to work: Don't you ever had the craving to join the combine when our friend Breen asked us? Well I certainly did. So the game I am aiming to make is going to revolve around choice: for instance: at a certain moment you will have the choice between helping the rebels or join the queens force it doesn't matter which you chose neither is wrong. But the stories from then on will split up and change completely. But also smaller choices can be made: between a good fight or solving a puzzel. Maybe it's even going to be posible to end the game without even one kill. This choice you make by recordnising the correct colour. (blue for puzzles and red for violence) (ofcource if somebody has got a good suggestion for more choice it is welcome). Well then the actual Story: As you may have read in the comment section Edgar Allan Poe is (but now i read the comments I guess was) a famous victorian writer of gothic novels. As he lived on around the same time as Lewis Carrol. I thougth it might be intressting to combine their work. So what do you get when you mix all the stories of Poe in that of Carrols work. Simply said our game is the answer on that question. This has actualy been done before by American mc.Gee but I was not quite sure about his game it just didn' t seem like Alice. but I hear you thinking "yeah and you think you can do better" well no, but I am willing to give it a try The story: The game starts with a second visit of Alice to wonderland: But this time alice didn't come to follow the white rabbit. she falls into the hole by accident and hits the ground a tad to hard, Alice will be unconcious at the beginning of the game. The white teeth of the cat can be seen in the darkness with his (almost gman style) speach he blaims Alice of what became of wonderland. (Alice said at the end of the first book that the queen and her force are just a bunch of cards, this has lead to rage or to motivation (depends on the choice you make) for the queen to built a factory). all and all you and the Cat later your companion will make your way to the queen factory to confront the queen about her behaveour. but what happend on the surface that made alice run? basicaly its the story of the black cat that happend . I could explain myself about this but I don't think you will be much of a help if you dont already know (or atleast heard of it before). Anyway the storyteller in that story will be alice father. This side story will be made clear by flashbacks (kind of the annoying flashbacks in halo 3). If you want more information pm me. still not interested? there is nothing I can do for you but to tell that maddnes and gore are going to be all over the place.
I am intressed. You're not gonna get any interest unless you actually show some content. [editline]09:32PM[/editline] Unless, of course, you're the ideas guy.
Yeah I'm on it in the meanwhile you can check my deviant art. There are some concepts there.
You're on what...? What would you contribute to the mod if I joined?

Pretty good concept art, goodluck :).
thank you
I'm alright at mapping if you need help with that. Very nice concepts too.
I'm going to scann some more work this week, and yes if you want to help mapping. we can use all help given.
Alright just PM me your steam info.
alright we just finished the concepts of the intro
You still haven't fixed the "intressed". How about you do a mock up of some levels. Also, you need to go into more depth about what this mod is about. You mention someone called Edgar Allan Poe in the OP, but I have no idea who that is.

I'm losing my faith in humanity, and people like you are just reinforcing that thought!
I was just kidding...
I was just kidding...
No, you weren't and you know it.
I'm sorry :sigh: Care to enlighten me? :buddy:
its called google http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Allan_Poe
Why should I google things to learn about his mod? That's the thing. He should be go into detail about everything he's planning. I'm not saying he has to write paragraphs, just a sentence or two.
im good with making things in game if u want my help just ask heres some of my work http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=100333 hope u enjoi
Why should I google things to learn about his mod? That's the thing. He should be go into detail about everything he's planning. I'm not saying he has to write paragraphs, just a sentence or two.
He doesn't need to, because you should know this stuff. Edgar Allen Poe wrote famous gothic poems such as The Telltale Heart and The Raven. This is very basic, they teach his stuff in textbooks. You have dissapointed me. Once you know who Poe is, the rest of the mod falls into place.
Who's this Shakespeare people keep talking about?
Who's this Shakespeare people keep talking about?
Who? [editline]11:30PM[/editline]
You have dissapointed me.
That made me lol. I'm not just talking about that, mods only work if the team constantly communicates and everyone knows what's going on. I've seen so many mods go to shit because of a lack of communication.
Nice concept art, but concept art a game does not make. Essentially you're asking for help with every aspect of the game's development except ideas.
Well no not exactly but concepts are the only thing i can putt on internet now the rest is still in progress or I didnt have the time to put it up yet. [editline]09:17PM[/editline]
Why should I google things to learn about his mod? That's the thing. He should be go into detail about everything he's planning. I'm not saying he has to write paragraphs, just a sentence or two.
Well it would have been nice if you actualy did some research before you started flaming me about the fact that I thought people knew their writers (guess it wouldn't have been a problem if I was talking about Tolkien).
Who? [editline]11:30PM[/editline] That made me lol. I'm not just talking about that, mods only work if the team constantly communicates and everyone knows what's going on. I've seen so many mods go to shit because of a lack of communication.
That's the thing, you're the only one here who DOESN'T know who it is. It's usually common knowledge, kind of like Pearl Harbor. If I have to explain what Pearl Harbor is I will find you and cut you
If I have to explain what Pearl Harbor is I will find you and cut you
Yeah that would be kind of an "facepalm" and then a "facepunch" moment.
Pearl what now? Bio, mind walking me through the first level? I like the idea but I'm not sure if you have enough to make a complete mod. [editline]09:54PM[/editline] The Pearl Harbour thing was a joke.
Pearl what now? Bio, mind walking me through the first level? I like the idea but I'm not sure if you have enough to make a complete mod. [editline]09:54PM[/editline] The Pearl Harbour thing was a joke.
Well ofcource the length of the mod wont be a problem since it can be stretched at any time given. Well for the first level: You have the opening scene: cat speaking to you and then a white flash you get the effect as you open your eyes, whiping of your hands to your dress. Then you find yourself in a tunnel pitchblack with a flickering light at the corner. The first level is going to be a surreal mix between a mine and a village. (something like a burrowed city then dug out. Well then as you walk to the light a man selling tickets can be seen. He tells you that you can not enter. The park has been closed. Ofcourse you will enter the other door on your right, which will lead to the pipes. Where you must climb trough some tight spaces to turn the valve that releases the pressure, With the bump principle you have to go back to the gate which now can be opened. when you go through the gate the man selling tickets now stands on the balustrade with a gun, then when he raises his weapon the cat can be barely seen but he knocks the man to the ground, then you can hear that a fight is going on which sends some of the mans gibs flying about. if you go further in to the tunnel you find your self in the village where you have to make your way through the sandflooded houses while obtaining your first weapon (yes a melee weapon) the pickaxe. At the end of the chapter you make your way to the surface of wonderland.
Please tell me you're going to emulate valves unique style of using lighting and texture clues to convince you where to go, without saying it. [editline]03:57AM[/editline] Also, do you know what a raven has to do with a writing desk?
Well, you can draw rather well, you have a neat deal of imagination, and you have kind of decent grammar (I assume English isn't your native language), so if you come up with a decent team, you might get to something. You have skills, so you should highlight them more so people know how much you are worth working with. Not sure you'll find many people here, most of the talented mappers and modelers are probably busy with their own projects. You should consider asking for help on other forums as well. If you're going to make a team, make sure you can keep everyone organized. Do not recruit more people than you need. Most importantly, you should not accept someone in your team if they are "alright" or "pretty good" at mapping/modeling. Do not accept them if they don't show their previous work. You can't believe how many teams I've seen falling apart because the "leader" was accepting everyone he found and wasn't worth shit when it came to organizing tasks.
I like the concept art.
