Since we now have a forum, I felt like showing something I've been working on: my Agricultural Tower

I made this because I didn't have enough space in my little protected base to build huge fields. So I used the waterfall-mechanic combined with torches to make my wheat grow.

This also means that the mob doesn't walk around on it. I put stairs on one side for access up, and when I want to go down, I simply use the waterfall. I might add a ladder some time.

Just felt like sharing it. Is this technique used by others? What do you think?

I now have a new way to make a farm, and I like it! :buddy:
That looks useful
Isn´t it complicated to harvest the crops?
Otherwise, it is a good space-saving technic to farm efficently.

A bit. But you basically just walk up the stairs, harvest around the waterfall, and continue.
:damn:
Very nice design, how much does it produce?
It's cool and all but it's too hard to harvest all that shit compared to harvesting a farm that's on flat ground.

What do you mean?
What do you mean?
How much wheat does it produce per hour?
How much wheat does it produce per hour?
Ugh, I don't know. I guess it depends on how much you plant? Doesn't wheat grow at a certain rate, as long as it has light and water?
Wow, that's actually a really good idea.
I like it, thats very creative.
How much wheat does it produce per hour?
It would depend on the height/how often you get it etc.
Could you build it in the ground to save vertical space? I'm only asking because I've never farmed in Minecraft, and I don't know if things grow underground or not.

Aslong as the soil is irrigated and lit.

Yes, with enough torches to provide light you can farm underground.
Awesome.

You need torches anyway, since the layer above makes a shadow on the next.
I have a suggestion. For a much more effective tower, try to construct a spiral stair inside with water fall surrounding it
For added safety, build a moat at the bottom so in case you fall you will land into the water safely.
If you built these from the top of the map to the bottom (42 rings), you'd have an output of 341 wheat per tower, and they'd be a piece of cake to build. You could have a complex of 4 taking up a space of a mere 7x7, giving you an output of 1,365 wheat per complex.
I once made an agricultural pyramid, the water was inside and the wheat outside
I use this trick a lot underground when I'm trying to hide my stuff from others in PvP.
Never went to that extreme, though.

PS Notch can add a wooden bucket that only carries water ANY FUCKING TIME NOW.

Almost finished , just converting the lower two segments from cobblestone to smoothstone , so the water is off and it's a bit rough near the bottom
Works perfectly , and doubles as a base.
Wouldn't it be somewhat easier to harvest if you had the spiral stairs inside, and then the wheat on the floor surrounding you with water coming off the top?
"So now anywhere you see a stack of blocks is called a TOWER!, unless its a farm!"
Naw but yeah that's awesome Great idea.
