I suppose this may be similar to EVE online, but from what i've seen and heard about EVE its complicated to play, What is Vendetta Online? ( taken from official site) In this game, thousands of people can play together, at the same time, in a single, persistent universe. Players take the form of spaceship pilots within this universe, flying to and fro between space stations and other locations in the galaxy. All combat within the game is fully realtime, based entirely on "twitch" skill (no "virtual dice rolling"). You directly pilot and fly your own ship, you are not a back-seat "navigator". Players may fight one another, or against Non-Player Characters (NPCs), even participating in massive border battles between nations or helping eradicate the vicious Hive. The thriving and complex economy of the galaxy makes many opportunities for traders, miners and smugglers alike. What Makes Vendetta Online Better? ( taken from official site) Vendetta Online is somewhat unusual, within the community of MMOs. Most games like this are made with budgets in the tens of millions of dollars, by teams of between 50 and 300 people (EVE Online and World of Warcraft, respectively). Vendetta Online was built entirely from scratch, and continues to be expanded, by only four people. A small development team has a number of tradeoffs, but some of the advantages have helped make Vendetta Online the game it is today. Here are a few commonly cited benefits of our game, according to our userbase: * We talk to our players. Every day. Ideas posted by users to our Suggestions Forum are known to show up in the production game in as little as a few days. This level of communication and feedback is extremely uncommon in the online game industry. * We release patches and expansions weekly. Our game is constantly in development, but remains one of the most stable in the industry, despite maintaining native clients on four different platforms. Our patches are always free, no matter how great the change in the game; we don't require you to buy special "expansion packs". * We allow our users to become more involved than simply as players. For those who are interested, we offer the Player Contribution Corps (PCC), a totally optional volunteer subset of our userbase who has access to building missions and even submitting user interface code for use in the production game. This community of enthusiastic players have contributed new mission trees to the VO Universe and even built new user interface features for the game client. They collaborate amongst themselves to review and test their created content as a community, making sure everything measures up in polish, and matches the game context and storyline. Beyond the PCC, many others in general playerbase create plugins and graphical skins for the game client, allowing a great deal of customization and added functionality. * We are multi-platform and open-source oriented developers. As a result, our game has arguably the best cross-platform support of any 3D MMO in existence. Vendetta Online is completely native on MacOS X, Linux/32, Linux/64, and of course Windows. "Native" means that each port is individually optimized for the platform in question. Most other MMOs use "wrapper libraries" for portability to non-Windows platforms, which can make the game much slower on Mac or Linux systems. Additionally, while our game itself may not be open-source (we would be unable to sustain ourselves), we came from that community and we continue to go out of our way to support it whenever we can. As far as we know, Vendetta Online was one of the first games to ever ship in widespread retail distribution featuring the Linux mascot on the box, indicating it as an officially supported platform. * The game runs on a wide variety of hardware. Aside from our broad multi-platform compatibility on Windows, Mac and Linux, the game will also run on machines incapable of handling other modern MMOs. Combined with the "native" platform optimizations mentioned above, this enables many of our Mac users to play on relatively modest hardware. Of course, we are continually adding new gameplay, some of it more graphically intensive than others, so we cannot promise this will hold true forever, or everywhere in the game; but we do try to keep the game as broadly accessible as possible, while also trying to keep it attractive to those with the latest and greatest hardware. * We have a fantastic community. Our player base may not be as large as some others, but they tend to be a friendly, helpful and engaging lot. We have our share of trolls and drama, of course, but newcomers often comment on the excellent community that has grown up around our game. Their enthusiasm helps inspire us to keep evolving the game towards our common goals. More Info VO has multiple ships you can find a list here: http://www.vo-wiki.com/wiki/Ships it has enough space for you to just mind your own business and mine and boring shit like that, but to have a fulfilling experience you need to get involved with the community, There is a subscription price (which I can'r recall at the moment) and there is a free trial, to me it seems to be a love/hate game, some may find it hard to get a foothold, the game does have a handy tutorial, but you are required to take it with every new character you make, but most people with find 1 or 2 characters fulfilling enough, you can have as many ships as you want on an account, there may be a station limit, there are "pirates" in the game or warp campers they are basically players that sit at the other end of a wormhole waiting to either rob a cargo vessel if you are one, or blow you up, the most active pirate area is Sedina, more specifically, Sedina B-8 and D-14 Links http://www.vendetta-online.com/h/faq.html - FAG http://www.vendetta-online.com/ - Official Site http://www.vo-wiki.com/wiki/Main_Page - Wiki Videos Trailer Tube Races PvP You WILL get raped in PvP when you start out, find some players to show you the ropes and it's always a good idea to run from a pirate if you can System Specs this game runs on Mac, Linux, and Windows Pwnage right? ALSA or OSS-compatible soundcard Keyboard/Mouse 200MB of harddrive space 56k internet connectivity Cheaters In a fully realtime game such as this, preventing cheating is not a simple task. We have taken a multifold approach to this problem. To begin with, the network datasteam itself is heavily encoded. Secondly, all "critical" game data, such as the user's character, inventory and other stats are stored entirely server-side. This information can only be modified by the server, and is secure from tampering. More frequently-updated data, such as the user's ship position, is sanity-checked by the server (making speed cheats and the like rather futile). Some cases are also passively logged for possible administrative action, with the suspected accounts automatically flagged for continued scrutiny by the server. Should a user be discovered to be cheating, this would be grounds for banning their account. The game essentially includes an "aimbot", in your targeting computer. We actually spent a lot of time optimizing the predictive leadoff algorithms and making this feature of the game work well. Developing another external piece of software to do the same thing would not be of much benefit. Your ship would still not be able to maneuver any better. If your ship did somehow maneuver faster than it should, that would be noted and/or prevented by the server, as detailed above. It's worthy of note that many of our users disable auto-aiming under certain PvP circumstances (depending on weapon type, etc). Even the best "auto-aim" doesn't work as well as a trained pilot, so any feature like this (or related "cheat") is of mixed benefit. None of our weapons are insta-kill, which rules out a lot of the "aimbot" cases that have plagued other games. It only takes a few hours for a new player to hit Level 3 Combat, at which point the Dynamic Warfare missions become available in Deneb, allowing you to join the military on the Serco or Itani side, and take part in real warfare on behalf of your Nation (often with other players on both sides). We start the new players out with simple drones, because some people find the combat learning curve to be a little steep, but other options quickly become available. Pirates and other aggressive players hang out in a specific region of the galaxy, which covers only 8 of the 30 available solar-systems. By and large it is easy to avoid, and you can certainly advance your character without the risk of these areas, especially if you simply avoid missions that take you there. The tutorials include very stark warnings about the "grayspace" region. We specifically *do* give new people a chance, by including terrifying defensive batteries that keep the pirates out of Nation Space. You cannot "lose XP". Ever. You CAN equip items and ships that are above your license level, by visiting the more "black market" stations in (more dangerous) grayspace. Not all items are available, but they can also be purchased elsewhere and delivered there (by the player, or often by other players who re-sell items). Some ships are nation-specific, but a considerable amount of gear is available in grayspace; as evidenced by our effective pirates, who are often "kill on sight" in all nation territory. The difference between VO and EVE is EVE is more an adventure game, VO is an acion game depending on how you play, EVE's combat is more strategy based, while VO you need to know how t handle your ship, and you need some good weapons too
How old is this game, does it still work, and does it still ask for monthly payment? Also, I know where to get a boxed version of this game.
How old is this game, does it still work, and does it still ask for monthly payment? Game is dead. Probably peaks around 30 players.
there aren't too many players that are all on at one time, you never see them unless you want to but the chat is usually alive, it definitely isnt dead Edit: I just checked, and there were 60 players on, this is a slow time of day
I really do encourage anyone remotely interested in this game to try out the trial at least, its a very alive community too
You should put some screenshots of playing in 3rd person, thats what really makes it cool... Too bad I don't have the money to spare for a subscription.
This game is fucking ace, but I wouldn't actually pay for it.
