Hey I own a copy of HL2 beta which was leaked in 2003. Anyway most of the maps won't load and either crash the game or bring up an annoying cmd.exe prompt.
Is this because the game was W.I.P or the source code is not finished yet?

This might be off-topic, over there on Half-Life Beta Project, under Downloads -> Main Content, there's a "Half-Life Port", which supposedly ports Half-Life to the Source engine, but still is not exactly the same thing as Half-Life: Source.
It sounded interesting, so I downloaded it.
It was a .rar archive with a TON more .rar's inside it. I extracted them all, and I had a folder called "hl1ports". Inside it is a "Setup", with just tells me to "Read the .NFO". Problem is, there doesn't seem to BE a .NFO. I even did a Search for ".NFO", and it only came up with some of my anti-spyware stuff. :raise:
So, does anyone know where this .NFO should be, or even better yet, can someone post it here in [noparse][code][/code][/noparse] tags? Or even just tell me what I'm supposed to do with this?

It should be opened with notepad were there will be instructions/descriptions in it.

Yes but back before the release of half-life 2 some german or russian hacker got into valve's files and got an (incomplete and unstable) working copy of half-life 2 and a metric shit-ton of dropped development files. Inside of those files included such things as the models and ai of scrapped enemies hundreds of sound files and so many alpha maps that it would choke a horse. this is the closest thing next to all of the beta mods out there that shows the "darker" storyline of half-life 2 which was much longer mind you but it was a bit redundant.

I believe that archive is unfinished, downloaded it a year ago and had the same problem but i was given a full download by Viktor, its the same thing as Half-life: Source except boxes and such have actual physics (not sliding on the floor like Half-life 1) however i believe it also contains Counter-Strike 1.6 Source, which is extremely unfinished and has a bomb icon made in paint, there is an overhaul patch that was once hosted on hl2world, good luck finding that.

No it sucks that because of the leak we lost all cool shit like the good storyline. Though i guess we would not really have the episodes good storyline.

It was structured like warez. And even if it was, you're FINE. The government NEVER goes after people that DOWNLOAD warez.
