Eg: adding the Gauss cannon, and replacing the USP pistol with a Sig Sauer P228. - Making the enemies smarter. - Adding in more H.E.V. suit sounds like in HL1. Eg: if you got hit in HL1 it would say "Minor lacerations detected, morphine administered", where as in HL2 it won't say anything. - Making some new High Quality sounds. - Maybe redoing some of the animations. - Adding/revamping the models. Eg: make the citizens with open coats and better hands/faces, fixing Alyx's hands, and increasing the poly count of the default models. - Porting it to the Alien Swarm engine. - Adding in some of the cut enemies and some of the HL1 enemies to HL2. - Adding a new difficulty: "Realistic" in which you and your enemies can only take 4-5 shots before dying (or just one shot close up with a shotgun) I might make Gordon be able to take 6-7 shots as he's wearing the suit, but the H.E.V. was designed for protecting the user from hazardous materials, not bullets. Mod leaders: Ken Chan IM BATMAN Fat-Corgi-Guy The Team: Zero Hour Bumbanut Marbledemon Ericson666 clicheusername brandonsh Tinter rezOnance Voltlight Nomad MacD11 Stiffy360 Joazzz A BIG thanks to 1/4 Life and GearDev, for the use and implementation of their shaders! I'm liking this, do you know roughly what size it'll be when it's done? Also, feel free to add me on Steam if you need some help on anything.
The new barney skin seems a little bland, same with Alyx. They don't show as much detail and seem like paper.
The sounds are horrible The 357 sounds like a small caliber pistol, not like something that would pack one hell of a punch
I like the concept, but have a few complaints. - Alyx looks way too beaten/dirty for Half-Life 2's events. It'd be good for Episode 2 though. - Weapon sounds, as said above, are bad. Unedited recordings of real gun shots are neither realistic or high quality. Not to mention they're out-of-place in Half-Life 2. - Adding onto the maps is probably too ambitious. For one, they need to be decompiled and would have to have any errors from decompiling fixed up before adding anything. I think it would be best if you made this a model/texture/sound pack instead of a full mod. Adding new weapons and expanding the maps sounds like a good idea, but would require a significant amount of effort. That, and keeping it a pack would leave it easily compatible with other mods and games.
The new barney skin seems a little bland, same with Alyx. They don't show as much detail and seem like paper.
Yeah, sorry about that, the reason why they're so "papery" is because I took those pictures in the hl2 model viewer (it basically applies an even lighting to the entire model making it look pretty crappy) I should have posted in-game screenshots of them. They've been added to the imgur album now (at the bottom). They're also both WIP's and I'm still working on putting the final touches on them. Barney, I am considering on re-re-vamping him, and adding more detail as you've said.

I really like your idea and you've done a great job on the Alyx/Barney reskins but even ingame the textures look really flat. Still, good luck with it, I'm sure you'll do great.

As for the maps, yes it is ambitious, but in order for the high quality texture to work correctly (as they'd be 2-3x bigger than the originals, and the maps don't auto scale them) I have to do the maps, and in the process, why not add some extra stuff to them? As for the weapon sounds, I'll try to fix them, and if anyone has any suggestions on what to use to get those sounds, I'm open to them. I've also had the whole "release the skins in a pack" thing in mind, so when I get those done, I'll release them for people to use, but also keep building the mod. Also, feel free to add me on Steam if you need some help on anything.
Thanks! I'd expect this to be pretty big, probably round...maybe 7-9 GB what with all the sounds, enlarged and re-done textures, maps, and whatever else I might add to it. Also, I've now added in-game shots of Breen, tell me what you guys think of him.
The Headcrab, Corpse, and Vort look pretty damn nice, but there's something about the Barney and Alyx skins that make them look flat, even in game. I can't put my finger on it, but they seem to lack in detail in some areas, (or the details are too small, and kinda hard to notice) they're too clean. Breen looks great though, not sure what to make of his pinstripes, mind. Overall, the project is damn promising, you've got my download when you release it!
And maybe in ten years you will pull this shit out of your asshole: [img_thumb]http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/4509/24532112.jpg[/img_thumb]

I am trying to make it as close to the original, while adding in a few extra parts. I am NOT going to butcher the models/characters/maps to look nothing like their true selves, but instead, make the ORIGINAL characters/maps/models have higher quality textures, making them look better than before, while still trying to maintain the overall look of the originals. Also, please thumb your image. *I don't mean this as an attack, it may sound angry, but it's not meant to be.*
Oh man, Barney looks more Barneyer than ever before Edit: their clothes need a little less contrast to it (perhaps add a little dirt and dust here and there?).
Colors are too solid, this is a dystopian hell hole we're talking about.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make them look less "flat" as people have been saying. I'm thinking it might be partially due to the normal maps.
Colors are too solid, this is a dystopian hell hole we're talking about.
Yeah, I agree with you, been working on creating dirt textures and stuff to make them look dirty and beat up. If you have any ideas/tutorials on how to do such things, please send me a link!
Looks pretty good! However I suggest you use EP2's eye shaders of the characters, it's a tiny improvement but you'll find that it instantly makes the characters more life-like.
To add more life to Alyx's face, give her unique properties - a tad bit more wrinkles wouldn't hurt (putting on so much makeup when she is going to climb buildings and perform dangerous stunts among rubble and dust shouldn't be the most of her worries). Her eyes should be a tad bit darker and she should have more noticable pores. Also, other than the part with bruises and marks, their faces looks nearly symmetrical, so adding a (very) little bit of extra features to one side wouldn't hurt to break that symmetry. I can't say anything bad about other characters' faces or the vortiguant (they look fantastic), but Barney's cop suit has way too much contrast and is way too clean for regular street use. Their original clothes had parts that were darker and some parts that were lighter, which isn't the case with the new textures. Other than that they look very good, good job! Edit: the fast zombie should still have little patches of reddish gray, especially near the abdomen area. The head should have some red patches as well (the headcrabs cut into flesh and cause heavy blood loss). The clothes should be a tad bit more bland - although they are realistic, they stand out way too much. As for the pistol sounds, the gun should look a bit different in my opinion (something a bit more powerful and less toy-looking).

Maybe one of my friends can help you make some models as well.
**OLD SKIN** [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/1wA5A.jpg[/img_thumb] I think what mostly makes this look off is the normal map around the mouth area. I'll probably be keeping the skin (with a better normal map) for one of the variants in the mod, as I'm hoping to have at least 3 face variants for each of the 9 models in each of the 3 groups that will be randomly chosen.
My latest skin, the face of "Mike" (or Male_07) one of the HL2 citizens: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/1wA5A.jpg[/img_thumb]
RIP Male_07. We hardly knew ye.
RIP Male_07. We hardly knew ye.
Care to elaborate on what you don't like about it? OK working on a V2 version, it'll be a lot more like the original Male_07.
Care to elaborate on what you don't like about it?
Male_07 is the sexiest 3D male model in any game ever.
Ok, new Male_07 skin. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/4PKaX.jpg[/img_thumb]
It would improve a lot if there weren't veins sticking out of his forehead. Or rest of his face for that matter.
It would improve a lot if there weren't veins sticking out of his forehead. Or rest of his face for that matter.
Where do you see veins sticking out on his face?
Where do you see veins sticking out on his face?
I think he means the worry lines, they're a bit too distinguished for the model.
I think he means the worry lines, they're a bit too distinguished for the model.
Given the circumstances I say he has every right to be worried.
Ok, new Male_07 skin. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/4PKaX.jpg[/img_thumb] I still need to dirty him up.
I preferred the first one, he looks like he belongs in combine Earth.

The rebels are more of a mixed barrel - some of them are still dirty, but others are surprisingly clean with cut facial hair and so on.
