The year is 2020. Climate change has been ignored. Cities are underwater. People are starving. Nations brace for war. Species are dying. And you’ve got to solve the crisis. The fate of the world is in your hands BUT WHAT IS THIS?! Fate of the World is a dramatic global strategy game that puts all our futures in your hands. The game features a dramatic set of scenarios based on the latest science covering the next two centuries. You must manage a balancing act of protecting the Earth’s resources and climate versus the needs of an ever-growing world population, who are demanding ever more food, power, and living space. Will you help the whole planet or will you be an agent of destruction? Fate of the World is brought to you by the award-winning Red Redemption games team and Battlestations: Midway Producer Klaude Thomas with climate science by Dr. Myles Allen (University of Oxford), writing by David Bishop (Dr. Who, 2000AD) and music composed by Richard Jacques (Mass Effect, Alice in Wonderland) with game design by veteran game designer Matthew Miles Griffiths (Conflict: Desert Storm, Battlestations: Midway). Fate of the World has been nominated for the 2011 Index: Design Awards and as a Top 10 Social Impact Games of 2010-11 by Games for Change Get it here! It is interesting to research climate control
I am interested. Looks pretty nice, but I wonder how it will run in my PC.

Wait, does this means there is actually a way to win in this (almost) apocaliptic scenario? I am really interested in this right now.

I am really interested in this right now.
My Pc is really old and as you can see by the screenshots it runs great. So far i have won 2 of the 4 campaigns, the fuel crisis is VERY hard because one of the failure triggers is a 5 degree increase in global temperature, so you cannot just increase energy production. Give the game a try, it is really fun. It has apparently been released on torrent sites but I would recommend buying it, I found it extremely interesting and fun. Well worth a measly 10 bucks. Think of it this way, you spend 11 bucks at your local theater to see a movie which last maybe 2 hours. So as long as you are entertained for at least that it has paid for itself.
This looks fucking nice. I love playing God. But what's with the "unregistered" version you have there? Is the game not released or do you not want to pay for it?

This looks awesome. Now do I spend money on this, or save it for crysis 2...
This looks awesome. Now do I spend money on this, or save it for crysis 2...
Or Shogun 2 or Homefront or Portal 2 or Dragon Age 2 [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] Bought it, gonna go play it now.
Noticed it, looks kinda cool. Don't know wether to take the chance and buy it.
It looks pretty cool, actually I like the idea. Although the layout and the looks of the game doesn't really fit, at least in my opinion.

The art style however can get a bit preachy with the whole ecological message the game is trying to convey.
Yeah, it should be a bit more dark and not so shiny.
They handle teching terribly, but I'm encouraged with the devs' patching of it. Good fun, but very hard. Has anyone managed to deploy a gene-plague without being tried for war crimes?

Looks like the kind of game that would depress me greatly.
Eh, 9 Dollars? I don't know.
Russia just assumes I am the anti-christ no matter what i do..... I always get kicked out of Russia, the Middle east, and afrika.
Russia just assumes I am the anti-christ no matter what i do..... That pretty much applies to all countries actually.
Argh I can't beat the Fuel Crisis mission. I was only a few decades from the deadline with my sustainable forestry and focus on electric cars to reduce oil dependency getting emissions at a good level. Suddenly economic collapse and literally billions of people dying from famine. In the end I was banned from everywhere except the US, which I somehow turned into an eco friendly socialist paradise where people commonly retire at 58 and most people are expert farmers. The rest of the world was starving to death and at war with each other, with a nuclear exchange in the civil war in Russia.
It sounds nice, though I wish it had a demo with maybe one disaster or something.
You get all the disasters on all missions; the game basically is a state of constant controlled collapse. The title refers to the fact that the hardest part of reducing emissions is in supplies of alternate fuels. The actual mission parameters are to make it to the year 2120, without the temperature rising more than 3 degrees, your organisation being banned in 8 countries or in your HQ region, or the whole planet becoming a 3rd world country. Usually I tend to be banned in all countries, or they all kill each other, or there's a nuclear war, or the entire planet starves while I'm still a few decades from the deadline. The advantage of a collapsed world economy for 3 decades is that while about 4 billion people starve to death, it's GREAT for the environment.
I have been planning to get this but i'm not sure it will keep me busy for very long which would be damn annoying.
I'm going to try and do an LP of this; http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1069009-Let-s-Play!-Fate-of-the-World?p=28582620
I seriously have no idea what to do in this game. I just click on random cards and see what happens.
Read the graphs, and look at where the emissions are coming from. Try to rebalance the economy so commerce doesn't get so big everything collapses.
It`s like if every above averagely complicated game has no tutorial.
How do I reduce oil usage in the agricultural and industry sectors? I keeps collapsing the economy when the oil runs out, even when I move them over to electricity and have energy going fine with nuclear and renewables.
Is there any way to just skip to dr. Apocalypse mode? I bought the game so I could freeplay it not do stupid scenarios that you have to do 5 times to win. I wanna see the world BURN.

They are releasing a patch to do just that.
It looks like one of these games with a really steep learning curve. Would be bad cause it looks like a really awesome game.
