So Cryptic (the same producer of City of Heroes) at January 25 are going to release Champions Online Free-to-Play BETA!
So you're wondering what is Champion Online?
Well, Champion Online is a super-hero action MMORPG developed by Cryptic Games. I've only played the trial(what is almost the same thing but with the restriction that you are not allowed to leave the tutorial) but is far the most character customisable game i ever saw!
You can chose almost everything in you hero. Powers, cotume, personality,etc, the game is truly awesome!
The downside is that the game is Free-to-Pay so you have to pay every month to play.

But not anymore!
With Champions Online Free-to-Play will be able to experience the whole game (with some restrictions) for free!
Most of the free-to-play restrictions are superfluous and can be bought in the game store.
Some characteristics the free game provided by their official site:
Play Everything – With the exception of special Adventure Packs, all the gameplay content in Champions Online: Free For All is available to every player. Once a player enters a location within the MMO game world, nothing is off-limits!
Unlimited Play Time – Play as much as you like, as long as you like, at absolutely no cost. No subscription or credit card required.
Your Own Hero, Your Own Story – Become a hero, encounter your Nemesis and advance to maximum level at no cost.
Play Your Way – Utilize the optional web-based and in-game C-Store to purchase gameplay upgrades or additional premium content.

Always thought this game was pretty good, but just under the threshold to be worth a monthly payment.
Can I download it now, so I can play it as soon as it goes free-to-play, or do I have to wait?

Honestly i don't know, maybe the hero will be saved in your account and then you will migrate to the free-for-all. You are able to level up on the tutorial so i think you will.

The only thing that will suck is the fact that you can buy game-changing items which grant those who'll pay advantages.

I always wanted to try this too, can you have a hero with wings? I saw a video where a guy made a Demon hero and was flying around the map with him.

the fact that free-players don't get custom frameworks is a deal-breaker for me, that was like the one thing I enjoyed about CO in the closed beta.

Custom Frameworks it's a system were you can mix powers like eletricity and ice for example.
The thing is that to create a custom framework you have to know a eficient combining of powers what to me its complicated. You have a lot of powers to choose in my opnion custom frameworks are not a big deal

Yes the sky is the limit you can make angels,demons,robots, almost anything that your imagination can reach.
For example just take a look at the new character i just made

Too bad the travel powers are limited. At first I heard that they were going to have all of them for us freebies. :smith: And customizing the colours of your travel powers/skills is premium members only.
That was one of my most favourite things in the closed beta.
What sort of travel powers are they? what do they do? (sorry for stupid questions, just curious)
There's stuff like flying, rocket boots, super jumping, super running, swinging, rock/disc/ice flying, athleticism (mix of super jump and run), fire flying. Could be more, my memory's a bit rusty.
Ah I see, something to make traveling a little faster, but different types to make it suit your character.

AUGH FUCK MY EYES I downloaded the demo and made my first hero then crashed in the middle of the demo and everything is fucking white now.
Won the demo now and I'm eager to try it out further.
So it's like City of Heroes I guess?
That's another game that needs to be free to play...

That's fucking lame. I know it's just a small feature but I enjoyed it and to make it premium only is just really irritating. Oh and do you mean that free users can't use all available travel powers?

Yeah...i'll post here the list of the travel powers that are restricted
e included in the Gold Membership. Currently, we plan these travel powers to be Special:
Fire Flight
Ice Slide
Swinging
Tunneling
Jet Boots
Rocket Jump
Hover Disk
Earth Flight
All of those travel powers only can only be acquired buying the game
