• How come MMO's lack physics and other aspects of other games

I was looking at alot of MMO's today and I noticed MMO's really lack physics, dynamics, and all around immersive gameplay. I mean they are strictly work together with a group of people point and click nothing else. I mean look at the most successful MMO to date WOW, there is nothing to that game but walk around and click and watch your character fight. I mean I know MMO's have Instances, Dungeons, Raids, Large scale maps, player interactions, and other things but what is keeping a 16 player deathmatch from being a giant server full of people. How come RDR couldn't support hundreds of players and the map the size of Texas. My question is why are MMO's so limited in gameplay?
It'd be a bitch to make physics sync for everyone, and lag the server to hell. I guess they're limited 'cause they want as many people as possible to be able to run the game and run it smoothly.
Isn't it hard to code a perfect engine that syncs and supports more than 1000 players online?
I guess they're limited 'cause they want as many people as possible to be able to run the game and run it smoothly.
And to earn money from those group of people.
Same reason most cars don't have hot tubs.
I'm sure they could just make the physics clientside. Look at that one gory game with the dismemberment and ragdolls, some free mmo which it's name escapes me. Bloodymare?
Requiem: Bloodymare, yes.

It'd be nice to have all the things you described, but the only thing is we don't have the server capacity nor power to run it.
Nexon has Mabinogi Heroes, which is really a lobby based game made on the Source Engine. (but it's as close as you are going to get)
Well your choice of having small areas w/ limited numbers of people or big areas with larger numbers of people.

You haven't heard of Vindictus. Runs on source engine, due out Q1 2011 http://vindictus.nexon.net/

Wait how does the door work
Champions has Physics for stuff like debris. Its client side.
It would take up to much bandwidth that it wouldn't be able to send it over a network fast enough.

I mean, if you can fight a fucking huge polar bear then it has to be at least somewhat fun right? The fact that it's made by Nexon is somewhat off-putting though.
