I have been trying to find some good games from that 'era' that I enjoyed but can't remember them. Maybe posting your favorites could help me remember (and make you want to play those) So far I have played through Deus Ex, Project Snowblind (mostly because I wanted to see how it was without constantly crashing), and a few others I can't remember right now. Not sure if this would fit in fast threads or not since this is about games.
Psychonauts!
Fallout 3
Bioshock
Half-Life + Episodes
Portal
Morrowind
Elder Scrolls IV
Postal 2
Splinter Cell Games
Mass Effect
Mirror's Edge
Dead Space
Crysis!

Will be on steam sale very soon (tomorrow) pick up a copy then.
Jurassic Park Operation Genesis
Orbiter
Moviestorm
The Movie Game
Call of Duty 4 was a great game.
The Battlefield Series
Sim City 4, Sim City Societies
:P I like making cities.
Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror.
StarCraft
Tron 2.0, Freelancer and Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition.
I would put more down but i can't remember any others.
Just Cause 1,
GTA Vice City and San Andreas.
Medal of Honour Allied Assault
Call of Duty 2.
Stalker
Team Fortress 2
Ghost Recon - Get this if you like a tactical shooter that emphasizes stealth and light infantry tactics as opposed to shooting everything in sight. The enemies have rather superhuman powers sometime, like turning 180 and shooting you in the head with his AK from 200 meters in less than a second.
Operation Flashpoint - the predecessor of ArmA II. I still like it for its massive amount of mods and the fact that it's set in the Cold War era rather than modern day.
Freedom Force - this is a great tactical RPG.
Mafia - good story and the 1930s car mechanics are solid, but it's a very challenging game.
Freedom Fighters - a nice squad shooter with the player leading American insurgents against the Soviet occupation of New York in an alternate 2003, where capitalism and the West are on the losing side of the Cold War.

my brain is so overloaded with games that i cant think of any
World in Conflict
Tactical Ops: Assault on Terror.
This. Better than Counter-Strike in every way.
Operation Flashpoint.
age of mythology

Ah the good days of Age of Mythology. Definately worth getting
Team Fortress 2.
Civilization IV and it's expansion! It's expansion, of course, being Beyond the Sword because Warlords was crap and Colonization isn't an expansion.
Don't forget Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
I'd definitely recommend anything by Lionhead Studios.
Black and White (1 & 2), The Movies (With Expansion), Fable etc.
Diablo 2
Operation Flashpoint
Half Life 2
