What's so bad about lanterns? I always thought they wouldn't replace torches, but instead you'd hold them in your hand for a light source, Amnesia style.

Currently existing torches would be replaced by lanterns, both placed, in inventory and in chests, but future crafted ones would have to be crafted in a more difficult way. So no, you're wrong.

Oh. Well he should add lanterns that you hold for a light source because that's a terrible idea.

I don't think that's too bad, it adds back an element of challenge to the game that was removed when Notch added beds.

I hate the bed system. It's so overpowered and removes the challenge. Instead, beds should be replaced with special types of minecarts built with a flux capacitor (made out of steel and redstone). To go to the next morning, you have to sit in the cart and travel at 88 miles per hour, and so have to build a massive minecart jump or something.

If you think beds are unfair then don't use them. I don't see why people are complaining.

Make it so others can still craft them, and they produce a bit more light, but torches don't go out. Make it a setting for SMP hosts.

Lmao I remember back when Notch was going to implement lanterns in the next update (Back in October last year) everyone raged at me when I said I thought torches going out was a bad idea. A year later and he still hasn't began working on it and suddenly everyones tune has changed.

I would rather lanterns just be brighter torches. I hate having to have fucking tons of torches all over our town to stop mobs spawning.
