I hate this.
I went and bought the WoW Battle Chest yesterday, cause I haven't played Retail WoW for about 2 years.
So I activated my account, under refer-a-friend, so me and my mate get XP bonuses.
I played with him for quite a bit, getting run thru different instances and shizz, and I hit 16. It was midnight, so I wanted to get some sleep. I got up this morning, to get on, so I could ding 20 before lunch, or something. I tried to log on and then I got a
"This account has been locked. Visit some ghey blizzard link to find out what happened."
Well, that's not exactly what it said, but you get the point. So I went to this link, and it told me to check my email.
Sure enough, I had one from Blizz.
Account Action: Closure
Reason for Action: In-Game Chat Policy Violation - Advertisement and Spamming
It goes on to say that I was spamming Advertisements, and abusing the chat system, harming the game environment and some shit.
I sent them one back, stating that I did no such thing, and blah blah blah. Then I went and had a rage to my mates, and it turns out it has happened to a couple of them, too. They got bans for the exact same thing.
So I thought, maybe it was a keylogger, grabbing my details. I did a search, and found I had a Backdoor.bot on my computer, which I got rid of straight away.
That could have got my details, I guess, but I had no idea how I got it.
SO, I've decided, once Blizz send an email back, hopefully re-enabling my account, I'll use this Battle.net Authenticator thing on my iPod touch, which shall supposedly make it hack-proof. I hope so anyway.
This is rediculous, seeing as I've only had it for less than 24 hours. Is the hacking really this bad on WoW now?
And has this happened to anyone else?

E-mail / Call Blizz. Say you got Keylogged, keep trying. You'll get unbanned eventually.

This. It happened to me too after I left for about a year-- it turns out that some private servers aren't quite as honest as I expected. Changed my password after I got my account back, haven't had a problem since.
They will also recover lost accounts + items if you ticket in-game

I also know that it's my fault, not Blizzard's.
And yeah, I've signed up to different private servers. Maybe that's the problem.
Luckily my username, which is my email, isn't the same pass AS my email. heh.

Yeah. That's not very smart.
Not really. I've just emailed Blizzard again, because I logged into my account with the Armory app, and saw two other characters made there, called Elainedesbvs, and another one called Millydesdaw. Both level ones, on different realms. So yeah, my account got hacked.
Hopefully I get it back, but until then, I've changed pass for everything.
The Battle.net Authenticator app will work pretty well, right? I'll use that once I get back online.
Stupid private servers. Stealin' mah infos.
Oh, and is Backdoor.bot anything that could've done this? As far as I understand, it's kind of like a gateway to my computer, for 1337 h4xx0rz. I've removed it completely, but I'm still not sure whether it was the Backdoor thing that has caused this, or whether it was dodgy private server owners.

And I'd rather not have a Mac. I'm a gamer, and WoW is only one of the games that I play. You can't game on Mac.
Macs are terrible. PCs only get viruses/keyloggers/whatever the fuck if you are an idiot about security.
I had my account hacked twice, both within 24 hours of each other. The hacker sold all my gear and everything I had in my bags and bank, and took all my gold. I logged in and realized I got hacked and opened a GM ticket. I talked with a GM and he told me to send Blizz an email. I did, and within 3 days I had like 5 in-game letters from Blizz with all the stuff that got taken from me.
Also, I have had a lot of luck with the authenticator. Since I got mine, no issues with getting hacked. And I realize this isn't on the same line as getting banned, but it shows that Blizz isn't out to screw you over.
i got banned for Playing on my friends comp. shareing account. and when i got back i went into my lvl 80 and i had no stuff. i asked blizzard if i could get my stuff back and they sent a lvl 30 green cloth gear ( and i was warrior). i freaking hate blizzard.

Yeah! Instead of scanning my PC for actual keyloggers and shit I just bought an authenticator! That way I don' t have to worry about keyloggers and dont get hacked! THIS PLAN IS FLAWLESS.

I've protected my computer with a bunch of virus programs, and stuff, so this shouldn't happen again.
And to those people who made their passwords the same as the retail one? I don't blame you.
I'm sure it's a common mistake, and I'm sure people get screwed over for it all the time.

lol I've played since december 2005 and even share my account with someone in arizona and one in california and i have NEVER had my password taken in all these years but yet you manage to get it stolen in less than 24 hours? wow thats probably a record somewhere
