Has anyone noticed that the physics seemed more realistic and robust looking and behaving in the beta (or atleast gameplay we saw)

Does anyone know why? and does anyone know if they will improve or fix this?
Nope
I think they just beefed it up because it was the demonstration. Notice when he shot the wood he only shot the parts that he knew the wood would spilt at.
Wait, so is modifiable terrain is still possible?
Wait, so is modifiable terrain is still possible?
the limitation is that the terrain's physics mesh does not get updated
Because it was all completely scripted. For example when you pick up metal can in traptown you see sparks - script. Or when you push down some garbage to block the soldier's way - script - an invisible push brush that activates when you touch the rubble.
Wasn't even possible in the beta. That was actually fake.
Ah, if only...
PROTIP: If it looks like the HL2 prototype has better physics or whatever when compared to the final game, it was very likely scripted.
It would be really nice if we did have wood that splintered and broke apart realistically in Source. I'm getting kind of tired of boxes and boards that totally crumble into the same exact shapes no matter where you whack or shoot it at.
ahahaha oh wow i think i played too much gmod that i forgot that source could have props floating on the water
it was pretty amazing back then
dont ragdolls float in gmod ?
And barrels, etc. A whole bunch of props float.
Edit: And yes, it annoys the hell out of me that boxes and such always break into the same damn shape.

The sparks are coming from the Combines shooting at you but whatever. Nothing is really scripted about the dumpster.

As mentioned the BSP collision didn't update because they broke that at some point in development. However it was recently fixed by The Axel Project. However it doesn't work that well if you ask me :)

There is a terrain morph point entity.

I dont think it updates the collision mesh, so you clip through it

Where can I find the 100 part download for the beta so I can use it with the Axel Project? Everywhere I look has seedless torrents or downloads with missing parts.

I have a friend who played with the leak and he says the dynamic prop breaking is legit.

Still same old source prop shit. They only made it so it breaks off where you shoot it and the physics system in the leak is bugged out as hell.

I sent you a private message.

Same effect could easily be achieved in retail.

Didn't say it couldn't be.
that vid was so amazing back in the day
I love the ending where it crashes and keeps repeating the sound effect
"will this run on my 486" "hahahahahaha"
"does this mean i have to upgrade"
So i'd have to download the Beta to get that sweet showcase map?
Because I'd really like that showcase map.

it's not even a little bit fun trust me
I've played the beta, only a few things where actually scripted such as the NPC kicking the door open and the displacement morph (and the actually shooting of the metal rebar thing) but the physics alone, when things slide or collide etc it feels more realistic to me, instead of feeling more exaggerated in the retail
A good example of the way things feel like they just have more mass is the rag dolls, they don't flail around and bounce they hit and slide what I can see being as realistic.

you can see the strider blowing up the skybridge, compare it to the Missing information one

(Both of which are not my videos)
I think the beta one looks much more realistic, the rubble seems to react with the world better.
those are e3 levels, designed specifically to rub source engine's cock

lol at the F U throw against the strider
Brotip: That doesn't change the way the props work.

They could've easily tweaked the physics engine.
They could've easily tweaked the physics engine.
Oh they have. I do believe Butthurter was referring to the e3 maps that's shown in the videos above. Just because they're e3 maps doesn't change the way the physics engine handles the maps. That's what I was talking about ;)

Yeah, E3 could've easily had a different version of the engine for all we know.
The physics engine in the leak is quite different from what the 2004 version of Source had. It is only becoming more different with each new version of Source.
