Here it is in a ntushell. My Xbox simply refuses to read any CD, unless you get lucky. It's not the common "Disk cannot be read" problem either Most of the time, when I put a CD in the tray, It'll close, make two clicks about a second interval, and then tell me to open the tray. If I go to quick start, it says put in the CD. Other times, you can hear it start to rev up, then stop again I sat for an hur opening and closing the CD tray untill it wanted to work. A whole fucking hour of the Xbox saying "nope, theres nothing in there, I know, I'm an Xbox." How the fuck can I fix this?
Replace the CD drive. They sell the HD ones on ebay for under $50. http://cgi.ebay.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-HD-DVD-Drive-Player-Heroes-Season-1_W0QQitemZ250562889599QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Accessories?hash=item3a56b6477f It's $60, but it comes with Heroes Season 1
So, I'm guessing microsoft won't help me?

You can lie and says it's the RROD, most of the time they'll just send you a replacement.

Put the disk in, wait about a second, then lightly hit it ontop of the CD tray.
If you replace it your self you void ANY warrenty, if you don't have a warrenty on it anymore then go ahead if you know what you are doing, if not then you may as well get a new Xbox for 200$ or whatever they sell at, or get an arcade for cheaper unless you want another hdd.
open your xbox up (this will void warrenty) and clean the dvd reader. (is what I did) If that dosen't work buy a new dvd reader
Stop playing CDs, the Xbox is designed for games. Sorry, but in all actuality, I really get the piss taken out of me when people refer to DVDs as CDs.
I said DVDs
We had this problem and ended up having to replace the drive. If you're still under warranty, go ahead and send it in. Otherwise, replace it yourself.

Anyone who mixes a DVD and CD up is dum
if you don't have any warrenty, then open it up and check the drive and the laser. Without fucking anything up.
Sounds like a broken reader, send it back to M$ if you're under warranty, or if you're brave you can replace it yourself. Either that or all your disks are broken. Hmm, but then if it worked after an hour then it definitely sounds like the reader.
