It is therefore highly recommended to drive the sim with a steering wheel, because even though you can use keyboard and/or mouse, a wheel is what you use in a real car, so a wheel should be used in a serious racing simulator. Especially when going online, where fast reactions are required.
CARS
There are 20 different cars in live for speed DEMO CARS XFG, fwd hatchback XRG, rwd coupe FBM, formula bmw FB02, easy to drive formula License Cars TBO-Class (S1 License required) XR GT Turbo (XRT) XRG, with more power, turbo lag makes it tough to drive RB4 GT (RB4) AWD turbo car, good for rallycross FXO Turbo (FXO) Quickest of the turbo class around corners, gets beat by XRT on straights LRF-Class LX6 (Requires S1 License) LX4 with more power, can be quite hard to drive RaceAbout (RAC) (Requires S2 License) Probably the most hated car in LFS due to it's very hard handling Very fun to drive once you get used to it FZ50 (FZ5) (Requires S2 License) Fastest LRF-car on straights, but not very good at corners FWD GTR-Class XF GTR (XFR) (Requires S2 License) UF GTR (UFR) (Requires S2 License) GTR-Class FXO GTR (FXR) Easiest GTR car due to AWD and good handling, but also the slowest XR GTR (XRR) XRT with double the power, slicks and wings. The price might seem high but it's completely worth it if you're in to sims and have a good wheel I know there's people who play LFS on FP, so I was thinking we should do some races sometime
LFS is my favorite pick up and play racing game. It actually controls pretty well with the mouse/keyboard and I love how it simulates a lot of regular road cars and not only race cars like most PC sims. I'd be up for some racing sometime. It's pretty fun stuff, even though I've barely touched the online.

So if you're new and happen to crash a lot you're bound to be kicked from any server.
Augh I'm too used to steering and braking aids, I have almost no control when I make a turn

But even when I do play online, it's usually on 4chan's lolocaust server. It's good racing, but not stick-up-your-ass rules.
Problem with the online is that most of the servers are either demo, cruising or drifting. Racing on blackwood gets quite boring after a while. I don't think I have ever seen a server with westhill on it. I'm thinking about buying a server and having LRF class cars on it with some of the less played tracks [editline]1st May 2011[/editline]
Augh I'm too used to steering and braking aids, I have almost no control when I make a turn
It takes some time to get used to driving in lfs, having a good wheel helps a lot
I only play the demo, and don't usually play Simulators but this is an amazing game. Usually play singleplayer or MP and the community is great. Never been kicked for being slower, spinning out or whatever, but that might just be the few demo servers. Surprisingly isn't that hard to get into for me, and I find the mouse much easier, never liked wheels myself.

It's fun as hell, but I have forza 3 for my 360 so theres really not much of a reason to play this over that for me, still this is great for someone who doesn't have that I guess.

In case you didn't already know about the new Z30/31 patch, I highly recommend installing it http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=74012
Playing the demo version since I can't buy any license. This game is god damn awesome, the sheers laughs had while playing were giant.
Who wants to play some LFS tonight? Either S2 or Demo, I'm fine with either. Someone else will probably have to host, though (my internets aren't up to it)

I'm guessing the best way would to be set up a Demo server for others to come along. [editline]3rd May 2011[/editline] I've not played in a while too, going to reinstall now
The first video makes me want to play a racing game with focus on crashes.
Made a demo server, might be laggy since my internet is quite rubbish 91.154.235.229 pw: duck [editline]3rd May 2011[/editline] hostname is Facepunch not even sure if it works, but people were connecting so I guess it does
I play LFS, if you want to race sometime add me on Steam: ToxicKlay
[del]I'll be on in a second, lemme just set my wheel up I'm in, get in here for some HARDCORE RACING ACTION[/del] Nobody was on for the 30 minutes I was there, so I've hopped out for a while. Yell at me on Steam if you wanna play or something.

I'd play but it's quite late and I don't want to wake up the whole house with force feedback shaking my desk. I'll leave the server on though in case some of you want to play.
LFS has come a LONG way since it's early days
Suggestions for any racing wheels that aren't too expensive?

Better start saving, I love racing games. But I hate having to use my keyboard or an Xbox joypad. Is it easy to just use at the desk or does it require some seating rig?
I play this with three monitors and Logitech G27 :buddy: too bad it's only on tracks

I've had my wheel come off my desk couple times when trying to come out of a bad slide. [editline]15th May 2011[/editline] LFS is definitely most fun when you have a wheel that can do 720 degrees, since you can set it up so that it turns the exact same amount as in game steering wheel
This is the perfect game for casuals, spent a good 3 hours playing this yesterday (mouse controls are awesome) listening to music and talking to buddies. If your demo server is still up, I'll be on there after I've had some breakfast :buddy:
Server is up, though I have the worst router in the world so I'm not sure it's working properly

Sorry for bumping a pretty old topic, but this might be of interest to the Live for Speed players around here. We at Driftmods/Prettyfresh/DGM have been modding the game for over 4 years now, and last night I finished editing a short trailer/teaser video of something new, as we are the first to put a new track/circuit in the game. There are currently two ways of adding a track to the game. In both ways we will be replacing existing content. We could do this by editing the layout objects, for example, replacing one of the cones or tire piles with a 3d model of a track, using gen_black, and then adding this object to a autocross layout. The other method is by replacing one of the existing cars (the F1) for example, with a 3d model of a track. When somebody hosts a server, the F1 will spawn as a dummy, locked in the center of our 'world'. There are no height levels or complex collision, but I'd like to say that this is very much possible to do in the future, as some people have succeeded doing so in smaller projects.
