Really quick question, but I really don't remember seeing these files here before, I just remember there being the usual common, downloading, sourcemods folders being there.

There are a load more appmanifest files followed by the common, downloading etc folders. Did I fuck up somewhere?
nope
Yeah, they are just waste files from steam which for some reason never deletes them, you can delete them if you want to save some space but there isn't much need.
all of your gcfs are stored in steamapps
do you even know what you're saying
do you even know what you're saying
also don't delete them. downloading folder is where downloading files are stored at
and manifests set betas and download sizes
So what am I supposed to be looking at in your screenshots? The GCF files? Did you just recently get the Valve Complete Pack or something?
I'm going to assume you mean the GCF files, in which case:

Neither of you knows what you're talking about.
GCF stands for Game Cache File, and they hold the data for certain games that predate the newer system that uses the "common" folder. The presence of many GCF and NCF files is normal and you should leave them alone. They are required to run the games they are attached to since they essentially contain the game itself within them.

I was wondering if he meant the manifest files, but his first screenshot shows all GCFs.
Either way, don't delete anything. Everything that's there is supposed to be there to run your games. If you want to free up space, you'll have to uninstall games.
OK. I deleted all of them after backing up, opened steam and all the games had uninstalled, launching any game installs it again (doesn't redownload, just installs) and doesn't seem add any extra files to steamapps.
I image searched steamapps and there are a load of pictures with similar folder contents. Rather than have to install all the games one by one, I'll take your advise and leave them there.
Thanks
fdiz what are you doing

Don't worry dude, gcfs are game content files. Nothing malicious.

Yeah I know they're safe. I backup my steam folder quite often and thought I had moved some files around by accident :v:
reverse process

Don't assume things.
