Gameplay:
Now before any of you start rolling your eyes let me point out that this game was - allegedly - in development before DayZ was released to the general public as an alpha, and the reaction to it has only incensed Hammerpoint to further develop War Z. The War Z will have you and up to 250 others running around a massive map (with further maps to come, all based around real world locations for free) attempting to survive and make a living in a zombie-infested world. Those of you who've played DayZ will find this familiar and while I doubt this will be quite as brutal, seeing how it includes many RPG elements to it (skill trees, customizable characters, missions/quests etc.) the devs have stressed that it is still a pretty unforgiving world. Gameplay will take place with - again, like DayZ - the option to toggle between 1st and 3rd person views, how combat will be handled isn't currently known though guns are most certainly a part of it, no word on melee combat just yet, players will also be able to set up traps in the environment, again though; no word on how this will work yet. There will also be day and night cycles, with the night providing more threats as well as rewards.
Special Safe Settlements will be available to all players and will be populated by NPCs, PVP will not be deactivated in these settlements, though anyone who caps a guy within one of these settlements will find himself the target of every NPC within the settlement, as well as a bad reputation. Safe Settlements are areas providing protection for the night time, as well as places to buy and sell gear, meet up with other players or leave notes for them, or even provide your own missions with reward, like a bounty on another player. Clans will also be allowed, with players being able to form and join clans and battle it out with others. Safe Settlements are also the only places where you can get Gold Coins, the most valuable currency in the game. The way you obtain these is by hunting special, rare zombies that only come out at night and only appear in areas with heavy zombie infestation - forcing players to delve into territory where things can go south very quickly. Upon killing these zombies, you need to find a way of extracting stem cells from the body which can be used to make a vaccine or cure for the zombie virus. Upon extracting the cells, simply take them to the nearest settlement and cash them in.
Now on to payment: no you did not read wrong on the Features list, the game will use a one-time purchase fee (roughly around $29.99 with a discount for those who pre-order) and the entire game will be yours, with updates like maps and weapons being completely free. The game will use a micro-transactions, utilizing a 'convenience model', details below:
As for in-game transactions, we looked at designing that around more of a "convenience" model. In other words, players will be able to make certain micro-transaction purchases in the game, but they will not be for improved weaponry or anything that will give you an unfair power advantage. Instead, players will be able to purchase things that will help save time, such as reviving their character in normal mode, buying slightly more effective food, hydration packs, medkits, etc. To get those things they will need to spend Gold Coins in the game, which can be obtained by hunting down the special, mutated zombies, extracting their stem cells and then selling them in safe settlements or by purchasing them in-game. So, essentially, players will be able to play the complete game without ever engaging in micro-transactions, but the option is there for convenience.
that male character model seems vaguely familiar
How do the screenies somehow remind me of DayZ?
I like what I see though.

Another game where you wear jeans and a baseball cap?! Madness. Must be copied.
This sounds like it's basically DayZ as an actual game. I'm so fucking in.

Oh come on you can't say that doesn't look A LITTLE questionable as to where they got the idea.
For some reason I'm pretty excited for this. I mean, you can create private servers!

It doesn't. The only thing they have in common is a long sleeve shirt and a baseball cap and that's totally clothing items that not many people wear, right?
I hope there's perma death like DayZ.
I basically want DayZ, but with a bit more structure and not on the ArmA 2 engine (because it's awful in every way possible).

There are Hardcore and normal servers.
Hardcore is permadeath

There's normal mode and hardcore mode. Normal means you die and your character will simply be unavailable to use for a while, meaning you'll have to plays a different character in that time, but you won't lose anything. Hardcore means you die and you lose everything.
For everyone saying this is a copy of DayZ:
1. You get to have multiple saves at the same time in this game.
2. This game is standalone, so you don't have to install or update anything manually.
3. WarZ has multiple maps.
4. Not on Arma II's shitty engine

I don't think it's per server, you just chose what mode you want your character to be on.

No one's saying it's a copy of DayZ, it's been in development before the DayZ alpha was released.
Sounds good on paper, but so does a lot of things for all we know it could be Fallen Earth but with nicer graphics.
Should be per server else that's a pretty bad system, no consequence for going round going rambo but for other guys they have to actually think about what they do, needless to say it wouldn't be fair if there's PvP

good

They probably went "well if I'm trying to survive and it's sunny I might want a hat to keep the heat off my head, jeans are common so it makes sense and I might want to carry shit so a backpack or a rucksack would be a good idea as well"
Sounds good on paper, but so does a lot of things for all we know it could be Fallen Earth but with nicer graphics.
It kinda doesn't. I mean, it seems like they're making the gameplay in this an actual shooter and it'll be less combat, more avoiding zombies oriented. Fallen Eearth is just generic hotkey based, killing random critters MMO only set in a post apocalyptic environment. This is a proper survival MMO.

DayZ player model doesn't even have jeans, they're cargo pants.

It has to be servers, people will act differently.
I.E: A hardcore character meets a Normal one.
The hardcore one can lose everthing he has, the normal one loses only some of his progress.
So the normal one is more tempted to just run and gun while the hardcore player might think about avoiding, teaming up and such.
not saying a normal player would not be able to team up and not shoot, but i think the normal player will go in with a different mentality.

Yeah I guess that makes sense, I dunno, they haven't really said exactly how that will be handled.
IGN: What, ultimately, is the goal for someone playing The War Z? If there a max level? I mean i suppose if you're playing hardcore your goal is just to live for as long as you can, but on normal?
Sergey Titov: There is no max level in the game. And yes, the ultimate goal is to survive as long as you can. Normal and Hardcore players will have their own separate leaderboards, plus we’ll have special servers where only hardcore players will be allowed, those servers will contain some rare items, not found on mixed servers. Outside of that, for each world there’ll be set of “missions” that you need to complete in order to have the world “100% complete” – those missions range from simple things like “kill X number of zombies’ to more elaborate like “open safe on military base” or “ find this rare item."

Wow, DayZ, Dead Linger, AND The War Z. These next few years should be saturated in zombies.

At least it's the good kind of zombie games, games that are about survival and about the interactions betweens players and not just all zombie shooters.
They spelled the website tab title wrong.
It says The War Z: The Survior MMO.

Problem with these kind of games is, once you got good gear, it becomes quite boring, atleast that what it is right now in Project Zomboid or DayZ. They need to add things like factions, base building, and generally stuff to do late game.
On the other hand, i kinda like the game. Maybe then people would stop going on ArmA3 videos going "image dis with DayZ O.O"

They did say there will be quests and stuff like that so it will probably last quite a bit longer.

How about some some sort of "raids" for endgamer's.
what engine does this use?
On a side note, this female model actually looks good.
