Favorite genres: FPS, RPG (Final Fantasy-esque RPGs) and racing games. But I'll try anything once.
There's only two things I DON'T want in the games: Extreme, over-the-top violence, and overly sexually-suggestive content. Anything over the level of L4D2 zombie gibbing isn't gonna work. And anything over... Well, just nothing TOO suggestive. There are some younger people in my house, and I don't want to scar them for life.
Also, is CoD: MW2 overhyped or is it actually a great game like most reviews?
Oblivion is nice if you can't run it on PC.
Bioshock (FPS) was a classic.
Dragon Age seems to be all the rage in the RPG genre.
Mass Effect famous RPG.
MW:2 is ok, if you haven't played MW:1 then I'd say get it, if you have, it's not hugely different.
Modern Warfare 2 is very fun to play, especially with your friends, but is hardly worthy of the praise it's received from reviewers. It's like a typical Hollywood action movie. You genuinely enjoy it, but forget about it once you've had your fun. I'd say it's worth a buy simply because the multiplayer will have you playing for quite a while, and there won't be another Infinity Ward CoD for a while.
I'd get Forza 3 if you like racing games. Assassin's Creed 2 is very good as well, but while it takes a while to beat it, I find that there's limited replayability to it. I'd rent it.
Get Oblivion if you can't or won't get it for the PC. It's definitely the best current-gen RPG I've played.
Get Castle Crashers (Arcade game) if you have friends over to your house often.
I'd recommend Grand Theft Auto 4. It's not hard to avoid or skip the sexual content, and the violence isn't that explicit. (albeit you can kill hordes of innocent people, that might phase some people)
I can't seem to think of anything else off the top of my head right now, I'm afraid.

Mass Effect famous RPG if you have a decent card.
Am I missing something, or are you? :raise: (I mean, decent card? Do XBOX 360's even have different cards?)
@jognlukeh
I support his recommendation for Assassin's Creed 2 and Oblivion. Assasin's Creed 2 is like GTA with free running, awesome combat, and more things to do however there are no cares only row boats.
[editline]lol[/editline]
and you ride horsies.

Wow I'm dumb, I'll fix it, for some reason I thought you where buying for PC.

And horsies!
Also, one question about MW2: Is "No Russian" really that bad?
Nah, it's overblown but still pretty cool in what it did.
I pitty the sad soul who actualy bought f3 or oblivion or any other bethesda game on a console.
No Russian is fine and if it's really that bad you can choose to skip it before or anywhere in the middle of the level.

How is sex or even the suggestion of sex going to scar the younger people in your house for life? Sex is a natural part of life, and I think it is silly how sex is treated in American society today.
I was going to suggest Fable 2, but I suppose that is out of the question now. As for racing games:
Forza 3 is pretty much the best general car game out there, and you can easily change the difficulty to be suited for younger folk who have no grasp on how cars really work. You can make it be as easy as hold right trigger and steer, no need for braking at all, or you can make it full simulation.
Bayonetta.
You get to kill angels with a giant chainsaw, throw around a dragon like Bowser in Super Mario 64, and other crazy shit.
Though it's kinda violent and sexual (as in VERY), but definitely a fun and content-filled game.
Saints Row 2
-decent campaign
-can be found for a cheap price
-hugely customizable gameplay
-weeks upon weeks of sandbox fun
-co-op is hilarious with a friend.
-tons of minigames, combine with cheats to create hundreds of minigames.
it's really just a superb game.
Also some other user suggested Dragon Age: Origins for the 360, I personally think that is a terrible idea, and that particular game should be restricted to PC playing, where you can actually play it as the type of game it is supposed to be.
I liked Mirrors Edge a lot, Its got some racing aspects...except on foot, and a really neat art style.
Saints row 2 is fun, cat and mouse roof top low grav tag!
with prat falls.
And drunk peds.
no vehicles.
Earth Defense Force 2017
Here's an idea: trade the peice of shit in and get a ps3
grand theft auto IV, far cry 2 (i loved it), and bioshock. fallout 3 is also amazing but the violence in that is VERY over the top

Shut up, we don't need people like you starting a shit storm.
I would recommend Crackdown, it's pretty cheap now and it can be alot of fun to play, especially co-op. I bought it on release, and I still play it 'till this day.
And no, I didn't buy it for the Halo 3 Beta, back then I wasn't even connected to live. :P
darksidders is really fun. and bioshock,gears1 and 2, fable 2, maybe halo or call of duty and rockband not guitar hero eww
Star Wars The Force Unleashed! I had this game before I sold my 360 and its all fun. Well, now you would want the Sith Ed. of which I haven't played yet.
MW2 is waaaay over hyped. Campaign and spec-ops is decent. Multiplayer is garbage (I smell the disagrees already).
Good games are: Oblivion, Fallout 3, L4D2, Borderlands.
Brutal Legend (Some bad language, but you can change it so it *bleeps*)
Gears of War 1 or 2 (You can turn gore off in both, but you can only adjust the language in the second one.)
Battlefield: Bad Company (Really fun, barely any violence, aside from shooting people.)
Borderlands (FPS with RPG elements. Has "gibbing", but it's really cartoony, you barely notice.)
Fable 2 (Note: you can have sex, but it doesn't show anything. The screen just fades to black, and you hear your woman moan.)

dragon age origins is rated m for intense violence and sexual content O.o the trailer is violent enough to scare a Young child

What about a large child who is the same age of said small child? :v:

I fixed it :v:
Bayonetta.
Major reasons why:
- It's made of win.
- It's made of win.
