"Desperate Gods is a free online board game that was designed to be played just like a board game in real-life: no rules are enforced by the computer, and all moves are performed in a shared physical space.
The game itself is a cross between Monopoly and Diablo, a dark fantasy dungeon crawl for up to four players."
Desperate gods is a 7-day game challenge. The theme was to create a game in a genre you wouldnt normally like.
However, just like Receiver (The 7-day FPS game challenge they did), DG took about 8½ days to finish. Therefore it didnt have a chance to win the competition.
Play it with 1-3 friends, or even alone.
Rules:
1. Draw three cards from the Town deck (on the right side of the board), and place them above the deck in the outlined spaces. These cards indicate the items that are for sale in the Town.
2. Each player chooses a colored figure and places it on the town square at the bottom-right corner of the board.
3. Each player rolls a die to see who moves first. In the case of a tie, the tied players roll again.
4. The first player rolls two dice, chooses ONE of them, and then moves clockwise one square for each dot that is facing up on that die.
5. The player then follows the instructions printed on that square. If the square requires drawing a card, the player draws from the deck corresponding to the depth he or she has reached in the dungeon. The wilderness area around the town corresponds to the top deck (with roots drawn on the back), and the deepest dungeon corresponds to the bottom deck (with glowing orange runes).
5. If the player draws a monster card, the monster can be defeated by rolling a die greater than or equal to the die shown on the card. If it is defeated, the player collects the number of silver coins shown on the card, and places the card in the victory pile (shown with a skull on the player's inventory area). Otherwise, the player loses one hit point, and the monster is placed at the bottom of the deck from which it was drawn. If the player dies, all gold in the player's inventory is lost, and the player returns to the town to heal.
6. Repeat for every player, until all monsters are defeated. At that point, the players look through their victory piles to total up their victory points (the values shown in the skulls of their defeated enemies). Whoever has the most is the winner!
Additional rules:
1. When players move past the Town, they may choose to stop at the Town instead.
2. When players move past each other, either of them may choose to initiate combat. In combat, each player rolls one die as if fighting a monster, and can use equipment as usual. Whoever rolls lower takes one damage. In case of a tie, both players take one damage. Repeat until one player is killed! The winner takes the defeated player's coins.
3. Alternately, when players move past each other, they may decide to trade equipment, coins, or defeated enemies.
4. Gold coins are worth 5 silver coins. All references to X units of coins, gold, or silver, refer to silver coins -- the gold coins are there for convenience when players have a lot of coins.
5. In Town, players recover all hit points, and may pay to buy any of the items shown in the store. Alternately, they can pay one coin to put those three cards at the bottom of the deck, and draw three new ones. Players may only carry three equipment items at any given time, but can sell items back to the store for half their purchase value, rounded down.
6. If a monster deck runs out of cards, you must draw from the next monster deck above it. If there is no monster deck above it, draw from the monster deck below it. For example, if Dungeon Level 2 runs out of cards, draw from the Dungeon Level 1 deck. If there are no cards there either, draw from the Wilderness deck. If there are no cards there either, draw from the Dungeon Level 3 deck.
Unconfirmed/Unofficial rulesets:
Supposedly this is a more accurate ruleset by devs. Unconfirmed. It looks good though, I would recommend playing by those rules.
(Post your own ruleset in this thread and i may add it to the OP)

Played a game with one of my friends last night, pretty fun stuff, the only part that sucked was figuring out how to play.
Is anyone up for a game?

How did you get soo many pieces?

They can modify the client with the source code, and the server probably just does whatever the clients are telling them to do. (most likely in this case imo)
Tell the server to spawn shit, it spawns shit.
I really quite like this game. I played it with my friend yesterday.
We're planning on playing it 3 players later today if we can get in contact with our friend with a really weird sleep pattern.
This game is pretty fucking fun. Though it needs more cards 'n' shit
Ughgughughguh Unity games need to stop wreaking havok on my shitty graphics card.

I even had it running on the lowest settings D:

Yeah. If they adds more cards though, they will probably have to create some new rules for how to win... since it already takes a bit of time until you've used up every single monster card.
Argh, i can't get into any game and none of my friends want to play this with me,
When will i ever be able to actually play this game?
No linux client yet :<
To host you need to open your "25000" tcp port up, Worked for me and all my mates were able to join.

how
Game gets pretty comical when 2 or more people try to do the same thing.
IE when someone landed on the Cells, me and another guy both tried to pull cards from the deck, and ended up sending the deck flying across the screen.
The rule set that is linked to reddit is the Official rule set btw.

Someone convert this to a Settlers of Catan game, now.
Dat Forest song man
Man, I just had an amazing game with 2 random people from /tg/. It was very close in the end too, I won with 32 and the guy below me had 30. Man, as long as the people you play with aren't a bunch of spastic retards, this game is pretty damn entertaining.
This David guy is amazing. I like his casual "Last week I realized there are no proper flying cars, so I made one."
It's the same guy that made Receiver - the gun-simulating game.

Suddenly, any board game is now playable over the internet.
He probably needs to fix some minor problems though... Like the game tends to become a bit laggy sometimes, especially when the money pile is moved around. Also the top of the board and the screen is a small gap where the dices often get stuck so you can't see what they landed on.
Other than that, the ability to toggle the chat for when you're using skype and such, and being able to pick up multiple coins the same way you can pick up dices would be nice.
Man this game is great, finished a round with my friend in just under 2 hours and then we started screwing with our own rules and board games using the same pieces, it was hilarious.
Looking forward to more board games in the future.
I like how they managed to make a better tabletop simulation software than anything there has ever been in just a week.

Then again this guy is a fucking genius, from what I've seen from Receiver and Overgrowth.
had so much fun playing this with a mate
I have insane urges to make Monopoly for this

If you can, do it.
Idea.
Take the unflinching sword and split it into two cards. One allows you to add 1 to your combat roll. The other card allows you to re-roll 2 attack dice if you lose. There will only be one of each in the town deck so it would be extremely hard to get both on one player. Plus they would both cost 9 gold each like the normal card does.
I love how innovative this game is.
Fuck scripted events, just throw in some physics, a tiny bit o' script for deck stacking and you have yourself an actual fun and personal online board game.
Why did no one think of this sooner.
amazing game, it really draws you in.
I inteneded to play a quick 30 minute game and accidentaly played for a full two hours
It gets really fucking annoying if you get lag, also needs more enemies and larger boards.
