• Cool Idea For a Future Rockstar Games Release

I was thinking, and I came up with a cool idea. Rockstar Games should make an OPEN SOURCE Grand Theft Auto. If you've played GTA since the past few releases, you would probably know that Rockstar is now disabling the ability to modify any aspects of the game; yet Modders find ways around this (usually)it's still a big pain in the ass for unexperienced Modders. Anyway. I think it would be cool if they made an Open version of the RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine) Engine; modifiable in any way. What they could do is make a small city or something, and allow you to add onto it however you like. (Or add anything to the game for that matter) They could even have some in-game examples. It would make almost the perfect sandbox. (If you know what you are doing)I understand how much this would cost the company, but it's just an idea. Does anyone else agree that this could be a possible future project for Rockstar?
I'll just stick with Just Cause 2.
The reason they stopped modding was the hot coffee mod for SA, they got sued for it or something.
This would cost Rockstar way too much to be feasible unfortunately. They also have to be responsible for everything that is made.
Same as above. Though what I'd like to see is GTA in space or something. :downs:
The reason they stopped modding was the hot coffee mod for SA, they got sued for it or something.
That's only because the files for it were already included in the game, they were just deactivated. All modders did was re-enable them.
They most likely won't release it 2 years from now.
Well either way, it's the reason rockstar disabled modding for GTAIV.

They could just set up a policy that states that anything that is made in the engine cannot be held responsible by Rockstar Games itself. (I think...)

How much should the SDK cost? Should it cost $150-$250? It might outsell Torque and Unity.
If I make a game, and someone makes a map of his school and practices shooting kids there, is it my fault he goes on a rampage? No. [editline]02:22AM[/editline]
How much should the SDK cost? Should it cost $150-$250? It might outsell Torque and Unity.
Cryengine 3 and UE3 are free. I don't see why you should pay for RAGE when you have those two great alternatives.
But it is, It's their game.. if they made it so they take the full responsibility.
Well, It's an open source. Open source for anyone to make whatever they want. They could set up a policy if they were to host any sort of public add-on database that Pornography or Profanity is not allowed. Oh, and Valve hasn't been sued yet for what people have made in Garry's Mod, Right? [editline]11:35PM[/editline]
How much should the SDK cost? Should it cost $150-$250? It could be postponed until they receive enough money. By the income they have been making from their past few releases, they could possibly afford some part in this. To buy the SDK it could cost around $15.00 - $30.00 if not more. This probably won't be sold in stores, but maybe be bought online as a download or something on the Rockstar Website. I really think that this could be a big hit for a modding community. I would definitely support this project if it were to ever happen.
