Edit: Now on Steam! And it's 10% off for the next week.
Atom Zombie Smasher is the latest release by Blendo Games (Flotilla, Gravity Bone). Fight the zombie war one city at a time by deploying a variety of mercenaries and orbital weaponry. As is Blendo's signature, the game is colorful and full of offbeat humor - which nicely balances the dire, apocalyptic setting.

AZS is somewhat hard to describe, so I recommend trying out the demo.

Description (for those too lazy to try the demo):
The video above shows only half of the gameplay (blowing shit up, killing zombies, etc.). The other half is all about planning. You must select which territories to liberate and which research to pursue based upon which mercenaries you have available and based on the current state of the zombie war. Then before getting into the action, you can spend as long as you want positioning your forces and devising the perfect strategy. Levels can be replayed as many times as you want until you are satisfied with the outcome (or, occasionally, until you concede defeat) so it all comes down to refining your strategies over time and experimenting. Levels can get quite hectic with multiple mercenaries to control, but you can slow down the action at will to make things easier. Co-op mode adds more cursors to the screen during levels so that, for example, you friend can command the squads on the ground while you direct artillery fire and extraction helicopters.
Each level only last about a minute (without replays) and it saves your progress over the course of each campaign so you can drop in and play one or two levels if you only have a few minutes to spare. It's also hard as hell. I've only finished one campaign and the zombies won with about 30% more points than me.
Great game.
Can't wait to see what sorts of mods get released for it.
It's $15. Damn it.
I would rather it be free, i can't see myself buying it.
Yeah it's like those old flash games just a little more in depth, still not worth it
Really? You want me to pay 15$ for a flash tower defense game? And you say big companies are greedy.
Demo wouldn't even run for me. :frown:

Clearly you didn't read my description or play the demo...
It's like those zombie outbreak simulators you find online but more awesome, i.e with actual gameplay!
I like Blendo games so I'll support them and buy this. I absolutely loved Flotilla, even if it was relatively featureless.
Oh man, level 2 outbreak, almost no upgrades, but I managed to survive for four days and absolutely rocked the level. (Granted this was with the Catbird cannon, which helped a lot)

Infantry+Bait+Barricades is one of my favorite combinations.
A bit overpriced for a indie game.
Even if it was $5 I would consider heavily about buying it.

what the fuck
$5 is like, a combo from any given fast food restaurant
and i've regretted far more of those than i have $5 games

I personally don't spend a lot on video games so I tend to think about the long term re-playability of each game. So far this looks like it could get old pretty soon.
But I haven't played the demo yet so I'm not too sure.
$15 is fucking cheap, bunch of tightwads in this thread.
Okay, I bought it. It's not as flexible, mod-wise, as I thought it'd be, it's just lots of variables you can edit. I want to be able to create game-modes where I can have 5 squads of infantry and have to hold off hordes of zombies, and I also want to be able to purchase mercenaries in the meta-game and customize the roster, etc.
The modding flexibility is a bit of a shame, but I think the game has a lot of replayability as it is. The steep learning curve helps.
I remember seeing this elsewhere. I was thinking "Ooh! This sounds pretty fun!" and was thinking along the lines of squad based FPS stuff with exploding buildings.
But no. I got dots running around the screen and boring shop windows.
I mean I can't talk because I play Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft which are no Unreal Tournament 3, but I mean come on.
Little dots when you have all this other 2.5D stuff? Ugh.
i hate how people "support" indie artists
they're not living out of a box and they're not poor and stupid
It looks ok, but I am not going to really buy this.
Interesting...
Too bad Flotilla sort of sucked.
I can't buy it :smithicide:
Epic bump, because it's on Steam now.
I definitely wish I had $10 to throw at this game. It looks like a lot of fun.
haha this game is SO GOOD
The description made me think it was some incredibly badass tactical game with similar gameplay to XCOM UFO Defense.
I was sorely disappointed when I watched the video :(
Demo is fun, I wish I could get the full thing. :/

the video is highly disappointing
all it shows is helicopters and carpet bombing. it's way more tactics oriented than that
This game is AMAZING.
I love these devs!
Gravity Bone was the shit, I should check this out
