Surprised I haven't seen any threads on this series so what the hell, I thought I'd create one. Just what the hell is Metal Slug? Metal Slug is a long lasting series of run and gun arcade games, similar to Contra in the fact that the screen gets overrun with enemies, flashing bullets are everywhere and you get all sorts of different power ups. Unlike Contra though there's nothing taken serious in the MS series and despite how violent the game can be it's made just for good fun. It's also got a hilarious dub over voice with engrish out the ass. If you ever wondered where "Rocket Lawn Chair" came from, look no further. The games sport huge ass bosses, classic game difficulty and a large amount of playable characters to choose from. For this reason, I think Metal Slug will forever outclass Contra, but that's a personal opinion. Many different Playable Characters? Do they make a difference? Why yes they do, each character has been granted a special ability in every game past Metal Slug 6, each one suiting favorite playstyles. Marco: The Blonde guy you see whenever you look up Metal Slug is a master with pistols, his pistols do more damage and his special attack is he plants himself where he stands and fires straight forward doing way more damage to anything standing in front of him. Tarma: The guy I used for this "section", he along with Marco has been in every Metal Slug game in some way, he can kick enemies who get to close to him, and his special ability is when he's in tanks and special vehicles he can lock his aim in one direction and the tank is powered up. Fio: She's a girl who comes from a rather rich family, and her abilities show it as when she picks up special guns she gets a increased amount of spare ammo. Her bullets are also top of the line in that they pierce enemies. She wears glasses and a brown cap Eri: Somewhat resembles a female Marco, she wears a green cap and jacket, she loves explosions and gets more grenades whenever she spawns in or picks up a weapon crate, she's the explosives expert Clark: From King of Fighters, all of his specials involve him grappling enemies and fighting them off with his bare hands. He wears blue unlike the other characters Ralf: Black Hair, Red bandana, and a black jacket, he's the "noob" character as he can take a hit, after being shot or knifed he'll fall down and slowly get back to his feet, but he can only handle one shot. He also has the Comet Punch (I think it's called anyway) where he winds up and delivers a flurry of punches that wreck the shit out of everything around him. Leona: A CQC specialist, her grenades spin out and surprise enemies, her special attack makes her swing a small knife around her in 360 degrees slicing bullets, lasers, and every other projectile, it also does heavy damage to enemies though it has short range. Alright! Sounds good, now about those weapons.... So glad you asked, Let me fill you in. Weapons in Metal Slug can come in several different shapes and forms from Big guns, to Monkeys with Uzi's to get weapons you must save captured P.O.W's tied up all around the stages. Minus Leona and Ralf you will lose your weapons upon the first hit you take, like in contra you can hold onto several weapons and once (er, well 2) and switch between them. There's also 2 levels of weapons, Bold letter and Small, Bold is usually just a beefier version and does more damage. Weapons are as follow Heavy Machine gun: It's... a heavy machine gun, shoot a asston of bullets and destroy fucking everything, easy modes default you to this gun instead of the pistol. Rocket launcher: It's a rocket launcher, medium ammo and fires somewhat destructive missiles, you can have two on screen at one time per player. (this changes game to game) Chasers: Rocket launcher, only the rockets chase enemies down, hence the name FlameThrower: Short range burst of fire, clears out webs and large groups quickly and is good at piercing Laser: You fire off a long thin beam of colors blowing everything apart. Shotgun: A super powered blast at short range, very thick range though you have to be close enough for it to count. Rare weapon Iron Lizard: A lot of people hate this damn thing, upon firing you release a small missile on wheels with a smile painted on it, after a second the thing takes off and creates a huge explosion upon impact with the enemy, hard to fire up as the lizards fall right back down. Dropshot: Like the iron lizard but somehow more useless, it fires bouncing grenades and... that's about it, they bounce a few times and explode unless they come in contact with a enemy, cannot fire it upwards Grenade: You fire a large bullet that explodes, in a way it's a bit better then the rocket launcher as it SEEMS to do more damage, that and it's fast as hell. Rare 2H: Dual wielding uzi's, slightly stronger then the normaly heavy machine gun and far more accurate. Rare Zeta Blade: A sword, it does insane amounts of damage, and can obliterate most things in moments, though it's low on "ammo", it can also cut enemy projectiles in half. Tesla Beam: Obliterates everything, you fire a long strand of lightning that blows through fucking everything and hunts down enemies Fire Grenades: Turns all your grenades into a wall of fire you can throw at enemies. Handy! There's many more including partners you can get but... I don't want to drag this out any longer So is it random gunning about or is there a plot? Well, there's a slight resemblance of plot in each game but for the most part no not really. It first started with General Morden leading his men to take over the world, and a small resistance arose and fought against him, using different "slugs", a code name for a special type of tank. Soon driving him to team up with aliens, clones, and future versions of his own army. Each time he rises to fight Marco and friends begin to hunt him down to bring him to Justice, though this usually means fighting zombies, aliens, yetis and whatever else is in the way as well. It's a arcade game what did you expect? Well I'm sold, where do I sign up? Anywhere actually! The metal slug series is out on almost any console and service so it shouldn't be hard to try it out in some fashion. For the Wii there's the Metal Slug collection that has 1-6 on it, Xbox 360 has MS3 and MS DOUBLE X (it's actually a retooling of 7) on the marketplace (both include online play!). PSN has DOUBLE X as well, though I'm unsure if it has 3. (also online play) DS has MS 7 on it PSP has 7 as well with a bonus character Leona on it Each for about 10 bucks a piece so no troubles should be had when hunting down a game Screenshots Videos List of other players Want to team up with another facepuncher? i enjoy playing a round of metal slug with my buddies, but the special attacks past mg6 sounds stupid.
I remember playing one in an arcade. Good, good times.
I remember beating MS3 in an arcade once, man it was so awesome [editline]10:46PM[/editline] oh also avatar
i got metal slug anthology on the wii it's awesome
I wish there was a metal slug where you could play as the Rebel Army. They're the best enemies in any game ever. Also avatar.
i enjoy playing a round of metal slug with my buddies, but the special attacks past mg6 sounds stupid.
It doesn't hinder much at all surprisingly, though expect all the new guys to swarm to Ralf as fast as they can, that extra hit he takes means the world to a lot of people
Extreme nostalgia
I remember beating MS3 in an arcade once, man it was so awesome [editline]10:46PM[/editline] oh also avatar
I got to the final level on 3 in a arcade, ran out of quarters on the midboss brain thing. I had a small crowd watching so felt lame that I couldn't make it to the end :v:
I have MS3 for the PS2, good, good times. The story got a little odd near the end, and i still loath the horribly tiled background during that part where your in that little pod thing flying into the mothership. That was serious eyerape. The soundtrack was classic though, whenever a situation requires zombies i always find myself humming the theme to that-ice-bit-that-i-can't-remember-what-stage-it-is-and-it-has-a-yeti-cave-full-of-gore. It was also creepy how the zombies where plane crash victims, thats kind of messed up considering the army is there to clean up and later there's aliens. All in the same stage. I should really get back to playing it! Edit: Man, just watched the videos and got some serious nostalgia. I played it a lot whilst the house was getting a new kitchen, and i swear whilst watching it i could smell freshly sawed wood. Also in the desert level, how many people found that secret slug nest thing that seemed to go on forever? And of course: "ROCKIT LOWNCHAH"

Speaking of which if you own one MS3 is on the 360, and it has online play as I mentioned, so may be somethin to look into
MS1 is the best
All of those quarters..
me and another buddy ran through all metal slugs up to 4 in the arcades using only 2 credits per machine. which was 2 bucks for both of us.
Leona's from King of Fighters too yes? [editline]01:25AM[/editline] I also looove playing Eri. Seeing that bandana fall off when I die feels cool.
I love playing Fio, just because her melee attack looks like she's dancing. And who doesn't love getting extra machinegun ammo?
When living in LA at age 11 with my grandmother, I always had to find ways to entertain myself, hanged out with friends, pulled pranks off, but nothing was more fun than running down to this ghetto ass laundromat in LA to feed the metal slug 2 machine quarters and shit. Good times. Here's a brief story about it haha. http://funkyhippo.tumblr.com/post/324534475/a-very-old-ex-buddy-of-mine-was-sitting-on-the Also my character choices are always marco or fio.
Leona's from King of Fighters too yes? [editline]01:25AM[/editline] I also looove playing Eri. And who doesn't love getting extra machinegun ammo?
Exactly, I had Double X up when typing this checking out everyones moves to make sure I didn't leave everything out, ended up spamming Fio's melee just for shits and giggles for awhile
Not advertising, but this is a good site about Metal slug http://mslugdb.com/en.php
I wasted so many coins playing MS3 in Indonesia.
Haha gotta love Tarma and dat final mission where the bad guys help you fight the aliens.
I played the shit 2 and 3 when they were free on Gametap. I then went hunting for the collection, but to no avail. :smith:
I love this series and all the soundtracks are amazing. My favorite level has to be this one:
Metal Slug is by far the best arcade game i have ever played. I've wasted possibly around $200+ just playing this.
:smug: [sp]look at my avatar.[/sp]
:smug: look at my animated avatar.
I didn't really care for MS 6, and I haven't played anything beyond that. 2 and 3 are my favorites. [editline]09:05PM[/editline] My automerge!
I remember when my friend and I beat 3 on the Xbox, shit was intense, our fingers hurt from the constant mashing of buttons.
I have Metal Slug 3 on XBL, the only problem is I have no one to play with. Seriously, my best memories of playing Metal Slug is co-op in the arcade with my friends, we all sucked but it didn't matter because of how much fun we were having. I'd buy Metal Slug XX on XBL if it wasn't $15. 10 maybe, but that extra $5 really bugs me for some reason

If your looking for more folks to play with leave your gamertag here, I'll add it to the op, hell I may play with you later if you want. I'm not the best but would still be cool
