The SiN Episodes was a fantastic start to a re-boot of the SiN series that was unfortunately cancelled before it got off the ground. The original idea was to release around 9 episodes in total, one every 6 months, that took around 6 hours to complete but due to the corporate take over of Ritual by casual gaming company Mumbo Jumbo many of the Ritual team left and another episode was never finished. In a 2006 episode Shawn Elliot (now an associate producer at Irrational Games) was quoted saying the following:
Jeff Green: Sin Episode 2... Shawn Elliot: ...is likely not happening now. A lot of the people from the dev team have left. Jeff: At Ritual? Shawn: Yeah, they've gone elsewhere. They now work for other people. Some of the key people. One of the lead programmers. That's not a good sign.
Never the less I think that this game is one of the best to grace the Source engine and a very under-appreciated one, so let's go into a bit of detail about it. Set in the near future of 2037, many of the levels and locations are reminiscent of their current day equivalents. Banks, building sites, sewage works and other everyday recognisable buildings form the basis of many of the levels in SiN. One major difference in the world of SiN is the lack of a police force. 10 years prior to the game, it is revealed that the police force collapsed due to inefficiency and ineffectiveness against the rising tide of crime. Private security companies have taken their place, some patrolling the streets like the former police, some in charge of protecting their employer's assets. One of these companies which employ their own armed security forces are SiNtek, a large multi-national biotechnology firm owned by the beautiful and charismatic Elexis Sinclaire. Formed in 2005 by Elexis' father, Dr. Thrall Sinclaire, Elexis took over the firm following the disappearance of her father. The protagonist of the game, Col. John Blade, is the commander of one of the largest security forces in the city of Freeport. Technology Improvements SE:E had a number of technological improvements over a normal 2004 Source game, most notably the Dynamic Difficulty system (or Personal Challenge system) which was proposed to adapt itself to the player's skill level and varies the skill, numbers and toughness of enemies faced in accordance the player's performance to ensure a suitable level of challenge as well as to help pace the player through the game, ensuring an even game length across all skill levels. Indeed, Ritual claimed that a proficient FPS player and a brand new FPS player started at the same time and, despite their widely different level of ability, finished within a small range of time of each other. Another, less noticable, change was the addition of multiple material surfaces. Source doesn't natively allow you to use more than one surface type on a prop (for example, you couldn't have a wooden sign with a metal rim) but SiN implemented the ability to do this. Characters Col. John Blade The protagonist of the series, he is the leader of HardCorps and is obsessed with bringing the antagonist, Elexis Sinclare, to justice. Elexis Sinclare If you've spent any ammount of time around the GMod poses and/or sex poses sections then you know who this woman is. The sexy, seductive antagonist of the series. Elexis Sinclaire is the CEO of SinTEK Industries and wants to speed up human evolution. To do this, she has made a mutagenic drug called "U4". JC Armack "A HardCorps hacker with a secret to keep" Jessica calls him "Skeeve". He has worked with Blade since before the first game and their bond was supposedly going to become much stronger over the duration of the series. Jessica Cannon Most likely the most memorable character of the episode due to how damn sexy she is. The newest addition to Blade's core team at HardCORPS, Jessica is able to infiltrate most secure lockups with ease. She is voiced by the actress Jen Taylor. Victor Radek Viktor Radek leads the Cartel, and is suspected of helping Elexis with U4 shipping. He is voiced by actor David Scully. Soundtrack The Soundtrack is probably the most memorable part of SE:E, most notably this song: The soundtrack was composed by Zak Belica, then Audio Director at Ritual Entertainment, who had also composed the soundtrack to the original SiN. The "Emergence" soundtrack was available as a standalone item on iTunes soon after the release of the game on May 12, 2006. A CD version of the soundtrack was made available later in the year on August 18 and included two bonus tracks. Unlike the disjointed electronic tracks which changed from map to map as in the original, "Emergence" employs a more focused approach by utilizing a central unifying theme underscoring other elements of the soundtrack. This method was inspired by the approach used by John Barry in the Goldfinger film and other James Bond style soundtracks. The central motif used was Jessica Cannon's theme, the song "What's the World Come to", sung by Sarah Ravenscroft. SDK An SDK was released for SE:E however it proved to be incredibly buggy and to this day remains highly non functional. If you have the cash laying around I highly reccomend picking it up.
I got this retail for $30 retail before it went dead. I really miss the game. :saddowns:
Obligatory "i wish this had gone somewhere" post. This opening episode was great and it's sad to see it die on a cliffhanger.
I loved this game and still do , I spend many hours trying to rack up a high score on Arena Mode. As with MegaJohnny , I am upset to see that nothing is being done with it as it does have ALOT of potential. Also , this is the best part of the game , along with the uh... "pancake disco" in the car park :
Too right it is, hence why it's in the title :v:. I laughed so hard at that part when I first saw it back on release.
This looks fun but I don't know if I should play it just to be disappointed at the fact that it's cancelled.
i wonder why they let this die so quickly
arghhhhhh. I'm reinstalling it now.
I played this game myself, such a disappointment that everything fell apart.
I can't help but to scream half-life 2 when I played this game because of the source engine, but the environments were amazing and the mapping was superb. I wish this game didn't get canceled. There is something about games on source that make them fucking amazing. I think valve should pick up the project after episode 3, which should be in 2033
i wonder why they let this die so quickly
Low review scores, I'm guessing. Gameinformer gave it a 2/5 but what the fuck do they know.

That's news to me v:v:v
This is source correct? Maybe a bunch of experienced modders out there could continue on with more episodes if they wanted to.
Yeah it's Source, I've been thinking about getting a mod started for a while now. Even if it's just a map pack with a bit of story or something, it'd still be a lot of fun. That said, if anyone with any sort of skill in modding fancies getting something along these lines started with me then feel free to give me a PM.
what a shame (/JCDenton) that mumboFAGo bought out ritual before a sequel could be made.
