Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos is the first installment of the Lands of Lore series. It was developed by Westwood Studios and distributed by Virgin Games, Inc. The game presents a real-time, three dimensional view from the character's perspective that is similar to the interface used on the Dungeon Master game and the Eye of the Beholder series.

Plot
King Richard LeGrey is the leader and 40th heir of the Gladstone Keep and the White Army. Gladstone is the base of operations for all of the civilized areas. The White Alliance has been defending it from many threats for three generations. The King is worried about Scotia, an old witch and ruler of the Dark Army who has recently acquired a ring called the Nether Mask, which allows its user to assume any form of any power or capability.
King Richard gathers together his armies and seeks a champion to go see Roland at his manor on the Southern Continent and retrieve the Ruby of Truth.
The player has to choose among 4 playable pre-made characters:
* Ak'shel: a Dracoid, an ancient race of dragon-lizard hybrid origin, specialized in magic.
* Kieran, a Huline, an ancient race of human-feline hybrid origin, specialized in dexterity. He is the canonical hero, as revealed in Lands of Lore: Guardians of Destiny.
* Michael, a human specialized in strength and fighting.
* Conrad, another human, who is a well-balanced combination of all.
When the hero finds Roland, he learns that the Ruby of Truth has been stolen as Roland dies. When he returns to Gladstone, he sees Scotia poison King Richard and escape. He must visit the Draracle and obtain the recipe of an elixir that will save King Richard.
Once they have the recipe, the party must travel the Lands of Lore to find the ingredients, while simultaneously learning as much as possible about the Nether Mask in the hopes of defeating Scotia.

Plot
The plot follows Luther, Scotia's son, who is imprisoned by the soldiers of Gladstone and accused for being a member of the Dark Army. Luther is cursed to be morphed into either a monster or a lizard, thanks to which he manages to escape. While the Draracle guides him, Dawn and Bacatta (from the previous game) are after him. Luther must go on his quest while avoiding his pursuers.
The player controls Luther on his quest to solve the curse. Randomly he will change forms, gaining the respective advantages (strength, or increased magical ability, and the opportunity to enter small spaces and discover secret areas). The power to change forms willingly is bestowed upon the player in the game.
The player can choose between two branches, good or evil, which then evolve into seven possible multiple endings. Endings include when Luther loses the final battle with Be'lial and the land is overrun with nasties, when "good" Luther triumphs and the Draracle discovers Luther in bed with Dawn, and when "bad" Luther triumphs, shown from behind raining destruction on the land as a powerful god. Other endings include not being quick enough to escape from the Armory in Belials Laboratory, which shows Belial smiting the Huline Village with an energy blast, being killed by the Draracle when Luther kills Belial on the Evil ending branch, and being seduced and killed by Dawn before the fight with Belial if the player acted badly towards her during the game. Going to the entrance of the starting cave a second time, at the beginning of the cave results in being killed by the soldiers stationed there, a different cinematic can play, depending on the form Luther is current in at the time of his death.

Plot
It takes place some time after Guardians Of Destiny, and is based on the adventures of Copper LeGre', the son of Eric and fourth in the line of succession, whose uncle Richard rules the Lands. In the beginning of the game, Copper's father and two half brothers are slain by a dreadful rift hound, and Copper's own soul is torn from his body. As a result, Copper must not only retrieve his soul, but also settle the allegations now leveled against him as he was the only survivor. As the new sole heir to the Kingdom of Gladstone, many believe he orchestrated the whole incident with his father and brothers. Coupled with that is the fact that he is the result of an illicit affair between his father and a Dracoid barmaid - a halfbreed heir. He must not only deal with those issues but also seek out answers to help close new rifts that have appeared throughout the Lands.
The story unfolds over many portal worlds in which Copper has to retrieve lost pieces of the Shining Path (which shattered when the Draracle left the Gladstone world). The same Draracle has sent Copper on his quest to save his life and soul as well as to save his home and world.

PS:If anyone has a fix to make Lands of Lore 3 run on XP i'd greatly appreciate it
:krad2:
Wow, this looks good. Where would I get it today?
I didn't know westwood made this. Shame they aren't around any longer. I loved NOX too.
I still have a copy of Throne of Chaos, tried to sell it a year ago but gave up
I still have the 2 CD set of Guardians of Destiny, (I think it's only 2 CDs?). I never really played the game, but I enjoyed what little I did play of it. It doesn't work on my current computer, and I haven't been assed to try it on another machine.
Fun game though.
