Ok, Forum Thread is called "Empires Mod Dead For Source Engine" But I just edited this post changing the whole meaning of the thread, The mod WAS dead, but then the developers changed their minds, the mod is not dead anymore. (View Post #42) . Actually they plan to speed up Development. SO THE MOD IS NOT DEAD. DON'T MOPE ANYMORE.
Oh great. Just great. (Sarcasm if none of you know)
Good. The Source Engine started becoming a setback for Empires the moment they decided they wanted bigger maps and air vehicles. Looks like someone needs to beat in Krenzo's face until he lets the new team use the name though.
fuck u
Oh dear god i lol'd
This sucks ass, anyone have any idea what Engine they might be moving too?
[editline]10:35PM[/editline] That was seriously one of the best games I ever played :frown: I hope they will be back on the new engine, and better. I read the actual post. I hoped they just moved the project to different engine, but no. They divided. They ripped it apart. The seemingly won't use neither story, or a bigger piece of gameplay. IT WAS FUCKING PERFECT, DAMNIT! It just pushed source to it's edges. I don't want a FPS and a RTS. I WANT MY Empires :crying:
Umm....Battlefield 2 engine? If they want bigger maps and air vehicles, Battlefield 2 can have gigantic maps, and already has some cool flying vehicles. And classes. And unlocks. But terrible god damn physics. I mean, on a BF2 mod someone shot me with a rifle ( it was on a ww2 mod ) and I literately flied across the map. But when a missile shoots a player, they just bounce up in the air and land a second later.

They Started on BF1942 Besides you cant script well on BF Engines, it's just Horrible.
Alright, staff member angry here. First off, the Battlefield engines are terrible for modding beyond standard BF gameplay. Second, we actually came to this conclusion awhile back, so this announcement has been a long time coming. Yes, it's sad to see empires go, I myself have been around since 01. 2.25 may or may not be finished, that's entirely up to our programing team. Second, Krenzo, who originally developed empires, designed it, and coded all of it up until a year or so ago, owns the Empires IP, there will be no projects using it. There are however small projects branching off as well as some fan made ones as 'spiritual successors'. The rest of the team is still decided what do to about that last bit as of now.
If I recall correctly, they started on Battlefield engine.
Then realized what everyone was bitching about when they found out that DICE hardcoded fucking everything into the game. I swear, EA gave them the idea. I just know it.

Will any of these "Spiritual Successors" have at least something comparable to that spectacular dynamic vehicle system? That base building? That researching? Please...
Well there are two projects on two different engines. NeoAxis and UDK, the UDK one, I believe their still bitching amongst themselves over a design doc but I believe they'll keep vehicles in mind. So yes and no. I'm just the sound guy, I'm still figuring on what side to pick myself.

Which I really hate because everyone are ignorant asswipes that ban you for not being 'pro'. It's funny, because I just realized how unfun it was because of all the tactical military bull shit they try to implement. Which you HAVE TO make a 'realistic' mod for 'pros'.

You can't really make something outside of standard BF gameplay. We tried this in empires 1942 0.1 and 0.2 which worked but it was highly unstable and was very hackily done for this reason. Don't even get me started on what galactic conquest had to do to get working AT-AT animations in.
Ta16, I was trying to say that. Project Reality is a really well made mod because it's basically BF's engine but with the so many extra things they can do. All the mods have to be standard BF with extras to not be messed up. Until now I didn't now DICE hardcoded they're games. It probably was an almost impossible task because of the hardcoding.
Oh dear god i lol'd
"im guna taek over development n were guna have hookers n lasers n shit"
Probably UDK, they'll probably become an indie title then
Is it true that that fine gentlemen from the thread is going to take over development? Are we really going to see Empires with hookers and lasers and shit? Tally ho
Why do so many people bash the unreal engine?

I'm gonna miss the rage filled community. :(
Oh goddamnit. Fucking loved this mod, shame to see it go.

I never did play Empires, but it's never good to see a game kick the dust so suddenly. Let's hope ZM stays with us.
Damn this is a loss the the gaming community :frown: I loved playing this mod so much. It was like ArmA 2 except better and free.
Empires went to shit when I lost my G4TC admin.
