I've had this game for a while on steam and just recently installed it (thinking that the problem might've subsided), but it still hasn't gone away... Everytime i pick up an item or get hurt (when my screen flashes for anything basicaly) the game slows down to nearly 3 or 4 FPS for a second or two then speeds back up. For me, this problem makes it unplayable. Anyway i can possibly fix this? I'm really starting to get annoyed by it now and don't want to have my money be lost.

I didn't post this here for my own health.

I'm just going to repost this if no one replies within 2 days.
If you mean unplayable as in "hard", then that's ultimate doom standard.

Also don't say "harp darp i will only clog the forums more if you don't respond", it makes you look like some maniacs that threatens internet forums.
I mean seriously. Who does that.

No, i mean unplayable as in, i don't feel like taking 3 minutes to collect 10 bits of armor because of the faulty DOSbox.

Should you even be replying to this thread? It's STEAM'S DOSBOX, so how the hell am i going to do that.
What's your OS?

And really, just send a steam support ticked and ask if they can fix it; you'll be surprised at how good they are at fixing things.
Contact Steam Support or something. Go google the problem. I 'm sure someone else has had it

Hey, wow, i asked for help, not asinine attempts at being funny.
Then read the topic I posted, it's the solution to the exact problem you're having, and I found it in literally 5 seconds by googling "Ultimate Doom slowdown on steam"
:iceburn:

I am.
Take the wad out of the folder, get GZdoom, configure and enjoy your awesome doom experience
Holy shit, greatest fix ever.
Finally someone who knows what they're doing!
Like Ohforf said, I'd use a source port like GZDoom to run it. GZDoom adds 3d floors and a bunch of other cool stuff to Doom.
Not for the original wads I'm afraid, but the sourceport supports alot of neat stuff.
Also, after you're played through ultimate you should take a look at the modding scene. It's quite alive even after all these years
Mabye it's been a while, but does GZDoom add the blood splatter and bullet hole effects on the walls? I don't quite remember that.
Play it on the Doomsday engine (jDoom, jHexen, ect.).
