What's the difference between 40 GB, 60 GB, and 80 GB?

I've been thinking about getting a PS3 recently, and I've been in heavy favor of getting the 60 GB model, though it seems all the stores carry are 40 GB models. I haven't heard of the 80 GB model until today, and I'm wondering: What are the advantages and disadvantages of each PS3 model?
20GB of HD space.
I meant the technical advantages\disadvantages, not the HD space. I'll be concerned about that later.
Didn't they discontinue the 60 gig? Because, that is what my awesome gamer doorman tells me.
Size.
On a more serious note, I don't think there is a difference.
Get the 80 gig one, it's got backwards compatibility. In an Xbox like way.
There is no difference. I think the 60 GB one, although technically "older" uses the old emotion engine which allows you to play PS2 games on it. You can't buy these normally in stores anymore though.
60GB version has tons of bugs in GTA IV.
40GB can't play PS2 games, 60GB and 80GB (I think) can. I know for a fact the 60GB can, as I have one. Other than that, there isn't really a difference.
60GB version has tons of bugs in GTA IV.
You must be doing something different. It works perfectly for me. Also the 60GB and above have backwards compatability, while the 40GB doesn't. Think that's about it, besides the HDD space, of course.
The only difference I can think of is that the 60gb has the Emotion Chip that allows back compatibility and the 60 gig has 2 extra USB ports.
No backwards compability and less USB-ports.

Sup, i i have a PS3 40gig edition and i play gta: 3 perfectly on it.
So apparently the 20 GB, 60 GB and 80 GB models are all discontinued and the 40 GB model is the only one being sold retail. Also, I already have GTA4 for 360, so I won't need to worry there. Getting a PS3 is worthless AND pointless if I can't play the PS1\PS2 collection I've built up over the years.
Wait, the 40GB can play PS2 games? I guess they only meant it couldn't play PS1 games then.
As far as I know, the 40 GB plays PS1 games but not PS2 games for some odd reason.
-snip-
If there was a difference besides disk space then there would be some big compatibility issues on games with better graphics on the lower-end system.
Just think it through seriously...

I believe the $500 80GB MGS4 package coming out the 12th has backwards compatibility.
20GB: Full Hardware BC
40GB: Software BC
60GB: Full Hardware BC
80GB: Semi-Hardware BC (Has GPU Chip, Emulates CPU)
Just wait for the MGS4 80gig if you want to grab one of these crap consoles. Besides the awesome collection of PS2 games, MGS4 is pretty much the only reason worth getting one.
I'm getting a PS3 next fall as a blu-ray player + MGS4. I would personally go for the 40g, but that's just me.

No, I play GTAIV on the old 60GB and it works just fine. Get the 80GB for space, they have a backwards compatibility software download on the playstation store, and I think the DL is free.
I have a 20 gig one :keke:

Sue them, you lost freakin' 5 gigabytes!
60GB has a different processor.
40GB + 80GB have a slightly better one.
I wouldn't care which I got.
But the new white console is sex.
You will need the space for your pictures, videos, etc, but mainly for your saved game data, oh! and your game data utility, which is basically something that is installed to your HDD once you play a game for the first time, sometimes it can take up alot of space! for unreal tournament 3 its 780MB, for Battlefield bad company 2 its 1,038, but don't worry it doesn't take that long at all to install since it is already on the disk.
