A letter to valve about the may 26th update(And a poll!)
Dear Valve,
I am not sure whether or not this is an automated mailing system or anything else, still, I hope you take a personal look into this. Even if maybe you have received millions upon billions of the same type of email.
As you know, the may 26 update has brought much new life and excitement back to the original half life 2 games. Yet, it has also left a path of destruction in it's wake to many of us little mod developers and general users of the sort. It has made many mods unplayable and unable to bring them back to their former state. With work in the sdk and all. At the moment it is only possible to run total conversion mods of the episode 1 engine, and even for the developers of those mods their progress has most likely stopped because of the fact the episode 1 sdk configs and tools have been updated and rendered useless. The only course of action for them at the moment is to update to the 2009 engine, which is something I'm sure they'd not be willing to do since they had been working with the episode 1 engine for so long. So I just have my two cents to leave you with that I'm sure would satisfy the mod community.
-Create a new branch of the source engine
-Bring back the original episode 1 code base to that branch
-Fix the HDR and other effects in that branch so it is fully compatible with the old mods
If not, the simplest thing we could ask is to at least add episode 1 compatibility again to the sdk.
Thank you for reading,
jjsullivan5196 and I'm sure most of the modding community.
Well, I hope this is sufficient
REPLY: Well, the episode 1 SDK is still available as the Source 2006 Engine and all of the tools are still there in their original state, but no more default content from the original ep1 games unless you extract the original GCF's and recompile everything yourself.
Ummmmm what?
I think he's talking about the SDK being broken, again.
They still haven't fixed the L4D SDK either.

Well it's not exactly broken, the functionality for ep2 works but not ep1. The original map compilers for ep1 were updated and the sdk configs were as well. Making them useless.
If you want them to take you seriously then use proper spelling.
I mean I doubt they care much about the weather.

Small mistake, I give you a funny.
Why isn't there a "leave them to their business, they'll fix it on their own" option in your poll?
oh that's right, because you didn't consider it

I wish I could add that now, maybe with the help of a moderator?
